philosophy \u201cbegins with sincerely listening to the patient and wanting to find out more about where they\u2019re coming from and what they\u2019re looking for and what they want.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz000s3b6m71lfciok@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI love creating an environment where people are surprised at how comfortable they are,\u201d he says in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_yeGNSXt54w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube video.<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz000t3b6mm3xpyu99@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A starkly different portrait of the dentist and father of six emerges in an affidavit of probable cause for an arrest warrant accusing him of killing his wife by lacing her protein shakes with poison in 2023.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz000u3b6m158qazq9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the lengthy affidavit, people who knew Craig, 46, described his purported descent: A risk taker with a dental practice that was struggling financially and a tumultuous marriage.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz000v3b6m6n8tgco4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Over more than 50 pages, an Aurora Police Department homicide detective laid out evidence \u2013 including witness statements, text messages and computer search histories \u2013 revealing what the department\u2019s investigations division chief called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/20\/us\/colorado-dentist-wife-death-arrest\/index.html\">\u201ca heinous, complex and calculated murder.\u201d<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz000w3b6mwda3ruum@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The affidavit of probable cause said, \u201cJames has shown the planning and intent to end his wife\u2019s life by searching for ways to kill someone undetected, providing her poisons that align with her hospitalized symptoms, and working on starting a new life\u201d with another woman.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz000x3b6mo1wk115a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Craig has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges in the death of his wife, Angela Craig, who was 43.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz000z3b6mkxbjvbex@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On what was to be the first week of Craig\u2019s trial, prosecutors and police accused him of plotting the murder of an Aurora detective who investigated the case.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00103b6mt1gojhym@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Craig faces two additional felony charges including solicitation to commit first-degree murder, according to a court filing by prosecutors with the 18th Judicial District Attorney\u2019s Office.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00113b6mfujysci8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The defendant attempted to convince a fellow inmate to commit the murder, according to police and the amended complaint. The document does not disclose the intended target, but Aurora police confirmed to CNN it was one of the detectives who investigated the case.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00123b6mqpleyfqe@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Neither the complaint nor the police department identified the detective in the alleged murder plot. The 18th Judicial District Attorney\u2019s Office has declined to provide more information.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00133b6mmff30p1a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The new charges were filed November 22, one day after Craig\u2019s defense attorney, Harvey Steinberg,  withdrew from the case. Court records show Craig has not yet retained a new attorney. His trial is on hold until he gets new legal representation.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00143b6mmv8v5xf2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The judge in the case approved the request of Craig\u2019s former attorney to leave after a closed-door hearing last month.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00153b6m3ipbmwju@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has reached out to Steinberg for comment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00163b6mgdy03xwl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In his request, Steinberg cited two rules of professional conduct, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DA18th\/status\/1859705243975680432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to prosecutors<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00173b6mvifnq65u@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The first states, \u201cthe client persists in a course of action involving the lawyer\u2019s services that the lawyer reasonably believes is criminal or fraudulent,\u201d and the second that \u201cthe client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant or with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00183b6m07ktcy8c@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Jury selection was supposed to begin the day Craig\u2019s attorney withdrew. The arrest warrant affidavit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/21\/us\/colorado-dentist-wife-poisoning-internet-searches\/index.html\">stated<\/a> it was Angela Craig\u2019s third visit to the hospital that month.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001b3b6mey6ch65b@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cHospital medical personnel could not find a known medical condition that would have caused Angela\u2019s rapid medical decline,\u201d the affidavit said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001c3b6mpc7n6vdt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            During a March 15, 2023, hospital visit, Craig sent a text message to Michelle Redfearn, the wife of his business partner, Ryan Redfearn, describing Angela\u2019s condition as grave, according to the affidavit. The couple are friends.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001d3b6mg86m3zmo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            James Craig had been texting Michelle Redfearn regularly since Angela\u2019s hospital visit on March 9.  She\u2019s a professor with a doctorate in nursing and asked him to keep her updated, the affidavit said. Angela Craig had reported feeling dizzy and weak but doctors could not determine the cause. In the texts, James Craig included detailed information about the medical tests his wife received. He texted two photos of hospital personnel working on his wife in a crowded room.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001e3b6m2sox72e1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t my wife, this would be kind of a fun puzzle to try to work out!\u201d he wrote at one point.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001f3b6muf04urog@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Another text from Craig read: \u201cIt\u2019s weird not being able to wake her up.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001g3b6mdspg3te3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Michelle Redfearn told CNN on Friday that the couple declined to comment because they expect to testify at trial.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001h3b6m9cja3nb6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Her husband, who is also a dentist, told investigators he was business partners with Craig since August 2022, the affidavit said. He acquired Craig\u2019s practice, which was \u201cstruggling financially.\u201d The two men attended dental school together and had known each other  for more than two decades. Ryan Redfearn described Craig as a \u201crisk taker\u201d who was \u201con the verge of bankruptcy again\u201d after filing for bankruptcy in 2021, according to the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001i3b6m5b2pmq6g@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On the day of Angela\u2019s final emergency room visit, Ryan and Michelle Redfearn went to the hospital, where he told a nurse that he suspected his business partner\u2019s wife had been poisoned, the affidavit said. Ryan Redfearn told the nurse James Craig had recently ordered potassium cyanide at their office when \u201cthere was no medical reason or purpose\u201d for the lethal substance at the practice, according to the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001k3b6mxzj9aiug@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Michelle Redfearn told investigators about a call Craig made to her husband after the couple\u2019s hospital visit, according to the affidavit. She overheard the conversation on the car\u2019s speakerphone: Craig said he heard \u201csome disturbing information\u201d and asked if Ryan had said anything to the hospital personnel, the affidavit said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001l3b6mj36molcn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Ryan Redfearn told Craig he had told the hospital staff about the package delivered to their office. Craig initially said the package contained a ring for Angela but ultimately admitted what was in it. An office manager had opened the parcel and reported its contents to Redfearn, according to the document.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001m3b6mi15de86q@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Craig told Redfearn that Angela had asked him to order the substance but \u201che didn\u2019t think she (Angela) would actually take it.\u201d Redfearn told Craig \u201cto stop talking and get a lawyer,\u201d according to the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001n3b6mhaw6nhij@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In a text message to Redfearn, the affidavit said, Craig made an \u201curgent plea\u201d asking his friend to not speak with law enforcement.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001o3b6m0ova0pkk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cYou are under no obligation to answer their questions \u2026 and you will do more damage than good to my family by continuing to insert yourself into this,\u201d Craig wrote, according to a screenshot of the text in the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001p3b6mqw1owgay@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the lengthy message, Craig accused Redfearn of unleashing a \u201chorrible storm\u201d on his family and pleaded that \u201cif there was ever any love in your heart for me, please don\u2019t make this any worse by talking to any officers,\u201d the affidavit said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001q3b6mnj6v6g63@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Craig concluded: \u201cAlso, please do not respond to this text message until I text you again,\u201d according to the document.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001s3b6mwbkd869p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Investigators also uncovered text messages between Craig and his wife on the morning of March 6, 2023, when she first began to feel ill, according to the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001t3b6m5r09qq17@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI feel drugged,\u201d she wrote, according to a screenshot in the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001u3b6mdsnoekz1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cGiven our history, I know that must be triggering,\u201d he wrote back, the affidavit said. \u201cJust for the record, I didn\u2019t drug you.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001v3b6mu9kb43df@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the weeks before her death, James Craig used a computer at his dental practice to research multiple \u201cundetectable poisons\u201d and make internet searches including \u201chow many grams of pure arsenic will kill a human\u201d and YouTube searches for \u201chow to make poison\u201d and \u201cTop 5 Undetectable Poisons That Show No Signs of Foul Play,\u201d according to the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001w3b6m5a5gqrhy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Angela Craig\u2019s sister told investigators the couple\u2019s marriage was tumultuous and she was told by Angela that James Craig had previously drugged her because he was planning to attempt suicide and didn\u2019t want his wife to be able to stop him, according to the affidavit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz001x3b6m0a15hn0p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The affidavit said Craig told the Department of Human Services that his wife had been suicidal and \u201chad told fellow employees that his marriage was failing, and he was in financial turmoil.\u201d The document said none of the people interviewed by investigators suggested Angela Craig had expressed suicidal thoughts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm44g03tz00203b6m5uy6hpm5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Arapahoe County Coroner\u2019s Office found that Angela Craig ingested lethal doses of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, listing arsenic poisoning as a \u201csignificant condition\u201d related to her death, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9news.com\/article\/news\/crime\/james-craig-murder-solicitation-charge\/73-b5c127d9-83b2-4a91-ba7a-a83f7498827b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN affiliate KUSA reported<\/a>, citing the autopsy report.
