Omer Neutra, 21, died on October 7 of last year, and his body was taken by Hamas to the Gaza Strip, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/idf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the IDF<\/a> confirmed on Monday.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>New intelligence information that came to light allowed a special military commission of rabbis, scientists, and lawyers to finally confirm his death around 14 months later, despite long-standing suspicions that he was dead.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>Neutra was a lone soldier from New York, serving as a tank platoon commander in the 77th Battalion of the 7th Brigade.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<section class=\"hide-for-premium\">  <\/section>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>He was abducted to the Gaza Strip on October 7 along with members of his tank crew.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>Tank gunner Nimrod Cohen from Rehovot, who is currently held in Gaza, tank loader Oz Daniel from Kfar Saba, and driver Shaked Dahan from Afula, whom the IDF has confirmed as killed in Hamas captivity were among Neutra&#8217;s crew.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<figure class=\"article-image-in-body\"><figcaption class=\"article-image-caption article-image-credit\" style=\"max-width:100%;height:auto;\"> Orna and Ronen Neutra, parents of Omer Neutra.  (credit: Hostages and Missing Families Forum)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Neutra&#8217;s parents spoke with <em>The Jerusalem Post<\/em> about the possibility of a hostage deal during President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s candidacy.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a deal maker. He\u2019s done it before,\u201d Ronen Neutra, Omer&#8217;s father, said.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<section class=\"hide-for-premium\"> <\/section>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just hoping that he uses his leverage. You know, each side has their own leverages,\u201d Orna Neutra, Omer&#8217;s mother, said, adding, \u201cWe\u2019re hoping that the combined effort will finally make something move.&#8221;<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>&#8220;Omer loved sports, played soccer, basketball, and volleyball, and served as captain of his school\u2019s sports teams,&#8221; the Hostages Families Forum said of him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>&#8220;His family and friends described him as a warm, optimistic, and people-loving person who &#8216;lights up the room the moment he enters,'&#8221; the forum added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<section class=\"hide-for-premium\">\n<section class=\"script-3632-container-wrap\">\n<hr\/>\n<div class=\"script-3632-container\">\n<div class=\"script-3632-text\">\n<p class=\"script-3632-text-first\">Stay updated with the latest news!<\/p>\n<p class=\"script-3632-text-second\">Subscribe to The Jerusalem Post Newsletter<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<hr\/>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<p>Neutra&#8217;s &#8220;bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten,&#8221; Garin Tzabar, the program through which Neutra enlisted, said of him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to demand that Omer is brought home to be laid to rest in the land he fought to defend.
