{"id":132776,"date":"2024-12-03T09:03:46","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T02:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=132776"},"modified":"2024-12-03T09:03:46","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T02:03:46","slug":"broken-water-pipe-knocks-out-data-processing-for-nasa-sun-studying-spacecraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=132776","title":{"rendered":"Broken water pipe knocks out data processing for NASA sun-studying spacecraft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Scientists won&#8217;t be able to process much of the data gathered by NASA&#8217;s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and IRIS spacecraft for a while, thanks to a burst water pipe.<\/p>\n<p>That pipe \u2014 a 4-inch-wide (10 centimeters) cooling water line in a server room at Stanford University in California that&#8217;s home to the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22081-solar-dynamics-observatory.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22081-solar-dynamics-observatory.html\">SDO<\/a> Joint Science Operations Center (JSOC) \u2014 burst on Nov. 26.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest\" data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\"\/>\n<p>&#8220;This caused major flooding in the building and extensive water damage in the lab that houses the machines that process and distribute data from the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) and Atmospheric Imaging Array (AIA) instruments and from the IRIS spacecraft,&#8221; JSOC team members wrote in an <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/solarweb1.stanford.edu\/JSOC_Emergency_Resources.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/solarweb1.stanford.edu\/JSOC_Emergency_Resources.html\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\">update on Nov. 27<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this point, it is unclear how long it will take to assess the damage, repair the equipment, and complete recovery,&#8221; they added. &#8220;We do know that the damage is extensive and [repairs] will not be completed until 2025.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <\/strong><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22081-solar-dynamics-observatory.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22081-solar-dynamics-observatory.html\"><strong>Solar Dynamics Observatory: Discovering the secrets of the sun&#8217;s magnetic field<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>HMI and AIA are two of SDO&#8217;s three science instruments. Data collected by the third instrument, the Extreme Ultraviolet Variability Experiment (EVE), are not affected by the recent flooding, according to the update.<\/p>\n<p>The IRIS (Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph) sun-studying probe launched to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\">Earth<\/a> orbit in June 2013.
