sign seen on a printed circuit board with semiconductor chips, in this illustration picture taken February 17, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Florence Lo | Reuters<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Major Asian chip stocks outside of China rose Tuesday, shrugging off a new round of U.S. semiconductor export curbs\u00a0aimed at impairing Beijing&#8217;s\u00a0capability to produce certain high-end chips.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/2330-TW\/\">Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> \u2014 the world&#8217;s largest contract chip supplier \u2014 saw shares rise 2.4%.<\/p>\n<p>Several Japanese chip-related stocks also gained. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/8035.T-JP\/\">Tokyo Electron<\/a> rose 4.7%, <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/6920.T-JP\/\">Lasertec<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/6857.T-JP\/\"> <\/a>climbed 6.7%,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/6857.T-JP\/\"> Advantest<\/a> gained 3.9% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/6723.T-JP\/\">Renesas Electron<\/a> advanced 2.2%.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese technology conglomerate <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/9984.T-JP\/\">Softbank<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>, which owns a stake in British chip designer Arm, saw its shares rise 3.6%.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration&#8217;s latest chip curbs will also target sales of high-bandwidth memory chips, which could affect the world&#8217;s two largest memory chip makers \u2014 South Korea&#8217;s SK Hynix and Samsung.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, however, rose 0.9% and 1.8%, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Derrick Irwin, portfolio manager at Allspring Global Investments, told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Street Signs Asia,&#8221; on Tuesday that the high-bandwidth memory controls would impact South Korean players to a degree.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although our belief is that the impact and sales of high bandwidth memory chips into China are reasonably small from these players in the scheme of things, and they&#8217;ll probably be able to shift that demand into the U.S. and other markets,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Commerce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bis.gov\/press-release\/commerce-strengthens-export-controls-restrict-chinas-capability-produce-advanced\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> on Monday that it was curbing semiconductor exports to 140 new companies in its latest effort to limit China&#8217;s ability to access cutting edge chip technology that could be used for advancing its military capabilities.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-9\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ZE371-CN\/\">Naura Technology Group<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/undefined\/\">Piotech<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> and ACM Research were among the largest Chinese companies to be included in the export controls list.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Naura Technology and ACM Research fell 3% and 1%, respectively, in China while Piotech rose 1%.
