Tech majors Tokyo Electron Ltd (TYO:) jumped more than 4%, while <span itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Corporation\"><span itemprop=\"name\"> Advantest Corp. <\/span><\/span> (TYO:)\u00a0and SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:) gained over 3%, each.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese chip firms stand to gain modestly as the restrictions disrupt their Chinese competitors, said Bernstein analysts in a note.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s  also surged 1.6%, with heavyweights <span itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Corporation\"><span itemprop=\"name\"> Samsung Electronics Co Ltd <\/span><\/span> (KS:) and <span itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Corporation\"><span itemprop=\"name\"> SK Hynix Inc <\/span><\/span> (KS:) gaining 1% and 1.5%, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia&#8217;s  climbed 1.4%.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Thailand&#8217;s  was 0.8% higher, and Australia&#8217;s  was up 0.7%, while India&#8217;s  indicated a muted open.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Chinese stocks weaken on U.S. export restrictions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Bucking the local trend, the  index fell 0.3%\u00a0and \u00a0index was slightly lower, while Hong Kong\u2019s \u00a0index dropped 0.4%.<\/p>\n<p>The latest U.S. restrictions reportedly include export bans on Chinese chip equipment firms like NAURA Technology Group Co Ltd (SZ:) and <span itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Corporation\"><span itemprop=\"name\"> Piotech <\/span><\/span> Inc (SS:). Both stocks plunged over 4% each.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. also is poised to place additional restrictions on Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) (HK:)\u00a0which is already added to the U.S. Entity List. Hong Kong listed SMIC shares fell 2.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Markets are closely watching for updates on U.S.-China trade relations, as incoming U.S. President Donald trump earlier vowed to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods.
