She has a very limited amount of time left.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Eminem and his mom.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The insider also said that Eminem, 52, was supporting his mom financially despite not speaking to her for \u201cyears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople around her aren\u2019t even sure if Eminem is even aware of what is happening to his mother,\u201d said the source. \u201cHe\u2019s good to his mom. He makes sure he takes care of her, but they don\u2019t really talk. It would be good for both of them [to communicate]. She had Eminem with her high school sweetheart, Marshall Bruce Mathers, whom she married in 1970. They got divorced after Eminem\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between Eminem and Nelson was always up and down. In 1999, Nelson sued Eminem for defamation over the lyrics of his debut album \u201cThe Slim Shady LP,\u201d where he claimed she did drugs.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Debbie Nelson in September 2005. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/who-is-debbie-nelson-eminem-mom-8405426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">ABC News<\/a>, Nelson won the lawsuit but only received $25,000 after asking for $11 million. She reportedly walked away with less than $2,000 after lawyer fees.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, Nelson published a memoir,<a href=\"https:\/\/r.nypostlink.com?btn_ref=org-19984c113c692001&amp;btn_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FMy-Son-Marshall-Eminem-Straight%2Fdp%2F1597775967%3Ftag%3Dnypost-20%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fnypost.com%2F2024%2F12%2F03%2Fentertainment%2Feminems-mom-dies-debbie-nelson-dead-at-69%2F%26asc_source%3Dweb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\"> \u201cMy Son Marshall, My Son Eminem,\u201d <\/a>where she opened up about the pair\u2019s fractured relationship. I told him I prayed every night for a better life. All I ever wanted was a husband who loved me, a nice home, and a big brood of children. Bruce felt the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.villagevoice.com\/interview-eminems-mom-debbie-nelson-on-her-son-marshall-her-new-book-sending-slim-shady-holiday-checks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">Village Voice<\/a> in 2008, Nelson addressed the possibility of making amends with the Grammy winner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not ever gonna give up on my kids. I won\u2019t give up on anybody,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s hope for everybody. It\u2019s a matter of just basically swallowing your pride. It\u2019s like a cashed check. It\u2019s over, it\u2019s done. You need to move on.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Eminem at a Kamala Harris rally in Michigan on Oct. 22, 2024. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2013, Eminem released his song \u201cHeadlights,\u201d in which he apologized to his mom for their beef. <\/p>\n<p>Nearly a decade later, Nelson skipped her son\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/02\/02\/eminem-leads-2022-rock-roll-hall-of-fame-inductees\/\">2022 induction into the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame<\/a>, but she did share a now-deleted video on X (formerly Twitter) where she congratulated him on the honor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame,\u201d Nelson said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/music\/eminem-mom-debbie-congratulates-rapper-after-his-rock-hall-induction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">People<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love you very much. I knew you\u2019d get there. It\u2019s been a long ride. I\u2019m very, very proud of you,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson had a second son, Nathan Samra-Mathers, with a man named Fred Sarma Jr. in February 1986.
