As Lawrence laid on the turf, a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EM_RESUS\/status\/1863321210655838547\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scuffle between the two teams broke out<\/a>. Al-Shaair was ejected from the game along with Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones for the ensuing fight.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm48jfsif000c356mnl0b84by@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In a statement released on Tuesday, the NFL announced it was suspending Al-Shaair for \u201crepeated violations of rules intended to protect the health and safety of players and promote sportsmanship.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47nt1mt000b3b6mpcyml9wk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It is not the first time Al-Shaair has been penalized for a similar incident: the 27-year-old was fined $11,255 for a late hit that occurred November 24 in a game against the Tennessee Titans. He also was fined $11,817 for punching a player in Houston\u2019s game against the Chicago Bears in Week 2.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm48jfrk9000a356m98x0lfdj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In a letter sent to Al-Shaair, NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan said that the linebacker\u2019s hit on Lawrence was \u201cunacceptable and a serious violation of the playing rules,\u201d while also highlighting his actions in the ensuing brawl and after his ejection.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm48jhk8q000f356m72g3u4g1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cYour lack of sportsmanship and respect for the game of football and all those who play, coach, and enjoy watching it, is troubling and does not reflect the core values of the NFL,\u201d Runyan said. \u201cYour continued disregard for NFL playing rules puts the health and safety of both you and your opponents in jeopardy and will not be tolerated.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm48jndfd000n356muev8ep7l@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Al-Shaair is able to return to Houston\u2019s active roster following their Week 17 game against the Baltimore Ravens.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm48jm4bx000k356mr4q8y9q0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Through the NFL\u2019s collective bargaining agreement, Al-Shaair can appeal the suspension. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/42754382\/texans-azeez-al-shaair-suspended-3-games-trevor-lawrence-hit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to a source who spoke to ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter<\/a>, Al-Shaair will appeal.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm48m1pe60001356m8fzdz6l1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has reached out to the NFL Players Association for comment on the suspension.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47l04tb00063b6m6ebbi1ty@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Houston Texans head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/11\/19\/sport\/texans-hand-cowboys-fifth-straight-loss-spt-intl\/index.html\">DeMeco Ryans<\/a> defended Al-Shaair on Monday, saying the team stands behind the sixth-year player and explained the incident should be considered from both sides of the ball.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47l04tb00073b6mhxro5o7n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe\u2019re not intentionally trying to hurt anyone, but I think there\u2019s an overreaction when someone gets hurt but we just have to look at it all, from all perspectives.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47l04tb00083b6mk24aozka@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cA lot of the quarterbacks in this day and age, they try to take advantage of the rule where they slide late, and they try to get an extra yard. And now you\u2019re a defender, a lot of onus is on the defender, right?\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47l04tb00093b6mt12e3clz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Ryans added, \u201cUnfortunately, Trevor got hurt. To Trevor I genuinely apologize to you for what ended up happening. Before the game we spoke and I told you how it was great to see you back out on the field and wished you well. I would never want to see any player hurt because of a hit I put on them especially one that\u2019s deemed \u2018late\u2019 or \u2018unnecessary.\u2019\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47l04tb000f3b6mmns83d65@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            He continued, \u201cTo the rest of the people who I\u2019ve been called every single name in the book from reporters with their hands ready for a story to find their (villain), to racist and Islamophobic fans and people, you don\u2019t know my heart nor my character which I don\u2019t need to prove to any of you.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47p9le6000r3b6m4z83pbrt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Earlier, Jaguars head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/03\/sport\/jacksonville-jaguars-doug-pederson-nfl-head-coach-hire-spt\/index.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Doug Pederson<\/a> was asked what he thought an appropriate punishment might be for Al-Shaair. Peterson referenced the skirmishes and fights at several NCAA football games on Saturday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47l04tb000g3b6mjqhlqnzz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI think the league is going to handle these situations as they come up. Just look at what even happened in college football, some of these rivalry games and things of that nature over the weekend. It\u2019s unfortunate because it escalates to a level that doesn\u2019t need to be on the field.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm47l04tb000h3b6mrzvz81vs@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe hold ourselves to a high regard. We\u2019re in the National Football League. Defend the shield. All that stuff.
