{"id":133153,"date":"2024-12-04T08:50:46","date_gmt":"2024-12-04T01:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=133153"},"modified":"2024-12-04T08:50:46","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T01:50:46","slug":"60-year-old-health-myth-many-still-believe-is-true-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=133153","title":{"rendered":"60-year-old health myth many still believe is true revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Now might be a good time to walk back <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/20\/lifestyle\/steps-vs-minutes-study-reveals-best-way-to-measure-exercise\/\">the myth that you need 10,000 steps a day<\/a> for optimal health.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0091743524002020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">A new scientific review<\/a> finds that just 3,143 steps can protect against premature death, with optimal daily steps falling somewhere between 7,000 and 9,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 10,000 steps\/day guideline lacks evidence-based support, posing a challenge for public health research to analyze the dose-response relationship between [physical] activity levels and health outcomes,\u201d the research team from Spain wrote in the August issue of Preventive Medicine.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Ten thousand daily steps has become the gold standard for walking since the concept was popularized by a 1965 marketing campaign, but a new scientific review says the \u201cguideline lacks evidence-based support.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">SB Arts Media \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/09\/15\/do-we-need-10k-steps-a-day-shocking-truth-of-daily-goal\/\">aiming for 10,000 steps a day<\/a> dates back to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news-medical.net\/health\/Mythbusting-The-10000-Steps-Per-Day-Trend.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">1965 marketing campaign<\/a> for Manpo-kei, a pedometer made in Japan that counted up to 10,000 steps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/14\/does-walking-10k-steps-a-day-really-help-you-live-longer\/\">Ten thousand daily steps<\/a> \u2014 roughly equivalent to 5 miles \u2014 eventually became the gold standard no matter the fitness of the pedestrian.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>In the six decades since the release of the Manpo-kei, several scientists have tried to test the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/08\/taking-10k-steps-daily-can-lead-to-lower-cancer-death-risk-study\/\">one-size-fits-all effectiveness of 10,000 steps<\/a> in lowering the risk of various diseases and preventing early death.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/nih-research-matters\/how-many-steps-better-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">A 2019 study<\/a> found that older women who took 4,400 steps a day had a lower risk of premature death compared to those who walked only 2,700 steps. The health benefits plateaued at about 7,500 daily steps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lanpub\/article\/PIIS2468-2667(21)00302-9\/fulltext#seccestitle140\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">Research in 2022<\/a> found that about 7,000 daily steps could help people over 60 live longer. The premature death risk appears to level off with a daily step count between 8,000 and 10,000.<\/p>\n<p>Seniors 70 and older, meanwhile, can experience health benefits at just 2,500 steps a day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/fitness\/in-depth\/10000-steps\/art-20317391#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">The average American walks<\/a>\u00a03,000 to 4,000\u00a0daily steps \u2014 or about 1.5 to 2 miles.
