{"id":133265,"date":"2024-12-04T16:39:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-04T09:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=133265"},"modified":"2024-12-04T16:39:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T09:39:00","slug":"juan-soto-bidding-reaches-600m-mlb-sources-say-process-of-eliminating-teams-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=133265","title":{"rendered":"Juan Soto bidding reaches $600M, MLB sources say; process of eliminating teams underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>By Ken Rosenthal, Evan Drellich and Brendan Kuty<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LOS ANGELES \u2014 The floor for Juan Soto is $600 million.<\/p>\n<p>The bidding for the free-agent <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/\">MLB<\/a> outfielder has surpassed that amount, according to two people briefed on the negotiations who were not authorized to speak publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Agent Scott Boras said Tuesday at Dodger Stadium that Soto has started the process of eliminating potential landing spots, but did not specify which ones.<\/p>\n<p>The clubs publicly known to be most serious about Soto are the <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"110\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/team\/mets\/\">New York Mets<\/a>, <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"111\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/team\/yankees\/\">New York Yankees<\/a>, <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"96\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/team\/redsox\/\">Boston Red Sox<\/a>, <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"121\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/team\/jays\/\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"106\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/team\/dodgers\/\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>. The two people briefed on the negotiations said that all remaining contenders have made offers above $600 million.<\/p>\n<p>The expectation within the industry is that Soto will make his decision by the end of the Winter Meetings, which begin in Dallas on Sunday, and possibly even before the meetings kick off. But Boras said he doesn\u2019t expect an \u201cimminent\u201d decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re going through these things, he\u2019s just got a lot of information to meld through,\u201d Boras said Tuesday. \u201cWe\u2019ve had meetings with a number of franchises. He\u2019s begun the process of eliminating teams and doing things. Juan is a very methodical thinker, so we\u2019ll see, but I don\u2019t think anything is imminent in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soto, 26, is on the verge of a landmark contract for two reasons: He is young for a free agent, and teams consider him a once-in-a-generation offensive talent.<\/p>\n<p>His deal is expected to be for at least 12 years, and its present-day value almost certainly will beat the record <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"PYXhWEdNdM6bQVDP\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/player\/shohei-ohtani-PYXhWEdNdM6bQVDP\/\">Shohei Ohtani<\/a> set with the Dodgers last offseason when he signed a heavily deferred 10-year, $700 million contract. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportico.com\/personalities\/athletes\/2023\/shohei-ohtani-dodgers-contract-details-700-1234757983\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Ohtani\u2019s deal was valued<\/a> at $460 million for luxury tax purposes, and $438 million by the players\u2019 union.<\/p>\n<p>Soto, in his first season with the Yankees, batted .288 with a career high 41 homers. His .989 OPS ranked third in the majors behind <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"SFIT5wwDvRYLsber\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/player\/aaron-judge-SFIT5wwDvRYLsber\/\">Aaron Judge<\/a> and Ohtani, and he finished third in American League MVP voting<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Juan Soto has walked at least 129 times in 4 consecutive seasons. But the Yankees desperately want to keep Soto as a complement to Judge, and the Red Sox have emerged as a surprising force in the negotiations. The Blue Jays and Dodgers are considered longer shots, though the Jays were willing to match the Dodgers\u2019 bid for Ohtani last offseason, and seem to be just as intently focused on Soto.<\/p>\n<p>That said, Boras was at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday for the introduction of a different client, left-hander <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"eJrKuW4uanxU3oFm\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/mlb\/player\/blake-snell-eJrKuW4uanxU3oFm\/\">Blake Snell<\/a>, who signed a five-year deal for $182 million. Snell settled for a short-term contract last offseason, which moved slower than this year\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClubs weren\u2019t interested. They just didn\u2019t call,\u201d Boras said. \u201cThe market for free agents last year started maybe in the middle of February, it was that different. People like to register that it has something to do with me \u2014 I\u2019m just a functionary of the system. We\u2019ve signed six, seven players already this year. These are the processes of demand and when teams and ownerships choose to move in the marketplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boras said he wasn\u2019t sure why teams were moving faster this year, but pointed to MLB\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/5933299\/2024\/11\/19\/mlb-plans-new-national-tv-packages-for-2028-changes-to-revenue-sharing-cba-crucial\/\">future plans for local media rights<\/a> as one reason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish I could answer those questions, I do,\u201d Boras said. \u201cI think a lot of it has to do with media certainty. \u2026 This streaming thing that they have going on is very viable, very profitable. I don\u2019t think they like to say that, but obviously the markets indicate that there is a different attitude about what it is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho\u2019s in the market has a lot to do with things too. You have major-market franchises, you have a generational talent in the market (in Soto).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers\u2019 payroll, including luxury tax projections, is around $310 million for 2025, per <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.baseballprospectus.com\/compensation\/cots\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Cot\u2019s Contracts<\/a>.
