{"id":133397,"date":"2024-12-05T00:57:03","date_gmt":"2024-12-04T17:57:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=133397"},"modified":"2024-12-05T00:57:03","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T17:57:03","slug":"superintelligence-will-be-more-intense-than-people-think","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=133397","title":{"rendered":"Superintelligence Will Be &#8216;More Intense Than People Think&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/sam-altman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sam-altman\" data-tag=\"sam-altman\">Sam Altman<\/a>, CEO of artificial-intelligence power player <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/openai\/\" id=\"auto-tag_openai\" data-tag=\"openai\">OpenAI<\/a>, believes that the next major developments in the AI sector will be more disruptive than people expect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAltman, speaking at the New York Times\u2019 DealBook Summit in New York City on Wednesday, predicted that as soon as 2025 the industry will begin to see the first examples of artificial general intelligence (AGI) in which you can give an AI system a very complicated task (as you would a human) and it will use different tools to complete it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s possible\u2026 in 2025 we will have systems that we look at\u2026 and people will say, \u2018Wow, that changes what I expected,&#8217;\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAt first, the introduction of AGI \u2014 or \u201csuperintelligence\u201d as some define it \u2014 will have minimal effect, Altman said. But eventually it will \u201cbe more intense than people think,\u201d Altman said, adding that with every major technological achievement, there\u2019s been significant job displacement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAsked about critics who say OpenAI is not focused enough on safety, Altman responded,  \u201cI\u2019d point to our track record.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tChatGPT now has more than 300 million weekly users, according to Altman, and he said it \u201cis now generally considered by most of society to be acceptably safe and acceptably robust.\u201d While \u201cthere are definitely people who think ChatGPT is not sufficiently safe\u201d he said the company believes that iterative deployment is important and that \u201cyou have to start when the stakes are lower.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAltman compared the advent of AI to the invention of the transistor, which came to be used by companies all over the world and transformed economies. \u201cThere will be shockingly capable [AI] models, widely available, used for everything,\u201d he said. AI itself, the reasoning engine, will become commoditized, Altman opined.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn 2015, Altman, 39, co-founded OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT and DALL-E, as a not-for-profit research lab. He served as president of early-stage start-up accelerator Y Combinator from 2014 to 2019. Altman left YC in 2019 to become CEO of OpenAI. A year ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/digital\/news\/openai-ousts-ceo-sam-altman-chatgpt-1235796371\/\">the board fired him<\/a> \u2014 then <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/digital\/news\/openai-deal-sam-altman-return-ceo-new-board-1235805171\/\">rehired him<\/a> less than a week later \u2014 in a dispute concerning \u201chis communications with the board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTech mogul Elon Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/08\/05\/technology\/elon-musk-openai-lawsuit.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sued OpenAI and Altman<\/a>, alleging breach of contract by deviating from its original nonprofit mission. According to the lawsuit, Musk was \u201cbetrayed by Mr. Altman and his accomplices. The perfidy and deceit is of Shakespearean proportions.\u201d Musk has launched his own artificial-intelligence startup, xAI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAltman said Musk\u2019s legal action against OpenAI made him feel \u201ctremendously sad.\u201d \u201cI grew up seeing Elon as a mega-hero,\u201d he said. \u201cAt some point [Musk] totally lost faith in OpenAI.\u201d Altman also said he assumes Musk\u2019s XAI \u201cwill be a really serious competitor.\u201d He also said he didn\u2019t think Musk would use his political clout with Donald Trump to harm competitors, saying such behavior would be \u201cprofoundly un-American.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen OpenAI started, Altman said, the founders didn\u2019t realize it needed the enormous amount of capital needed to develop the product and did not expect to introduce commercial products. \u201cIt was not clear we would have a product or a revenue stream,\u201d Altman said, but that changed after the launch of ChatGPT. The company\u2019s board is at work on determining how to proceed in shifting toward for-profit status, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOpenAI has been at the center of other controversies. The company has been the target of lawsuits \u2014 including by the New York Times Co., which alleged the AI player engaged in massive copyright infringement by using the publication\u2019s articles to train its systems. Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/digital\/news\/openai-shuts-down-sora-artists-protest-leak-1236224878\/\">OpenAI shut off public access to Sora<\/a>, its gen-AI video tool, following a protest staged by artists who had agreed to be early testers of the system who complained they were being exploited for PR purposes and unpaid R&amp;D.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAbout the legal questions about copyright and AI, Altman said the \u201cdiscussions of fair use\u201d are at the wrong level, and that the industry needs to find \u201cnew economic models\u201d to compensate creators for AI. DealBook\u2019s Andrew Ross Sorkin, who interviewed Altman, responded that the resolution to those questions will be settled by the justice system: \u201cWe\u2019ll see you in court,\u201d he told Altman, eliciting laughs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn October, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/digital\/news\/openai-6-6-billion-funding-valuation-1236166126\/\">OpenAI raised $6.6 billion<\/a> in new funding from investors including Microsoft and Nvidia, giving it a post-money valuation of $157 billion.
