During an interview with<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/04\/t-magazine\/robert-pattinson-mickey-17.html\">\u00a0<em>The New York Times Style Magazine<\/em><\/a> published Wednesday, Pattinson revisited a 2011 interview during which he told a bewildered Matt Lauer on live television a completely made-up story about seeing a clown die in a little car explosion as a kid. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThere was absolutely no hesitation at all [in my voice],\u201d Pattinson told the <em>Times<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018What on earth? Are you possessed?\u2019\u201d He explained that during this time in his career \u201cthe only thing people would ever ask me about was being famous\u201d and \u201cyou go into, like, a fugue state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s a topic Pattinson has pondered before, and he once told Willem Dafoe for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interviewmagazine.com\/film\/high-life-star-robert-pattinson-tells-willem-dafoe-what-hes-terrified-of\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Interview<\/em><\/a> that he gets \u201ca certain high from it.\u201d \u201cThere\u2019s a little gremlin inside of me that thinks, \u2018Just say something shocking. I have my apartment for sleeping in and I have my hair for just, you know, hanging on my head. Then, when stopping by <em>Jimmy Kimmel Live! <\/em>in 2011, the late-night host <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8_WCNPF1Iq8&amp;t=134s\">challenged<\/a> the actor\u2019s story, calling on Pattinson\u2019s mother in the audience to vouch for her son.
