From the moment the \u201cfaithful adaptation\u201d of the beloved book series by J.K. Rowling was officially announced in April 2023 as a \u201cdecade-long series,\u201d the project has been the subject of unprecedented fan interest and scrutiny, from author Rowling\u2019s role as executive producer in light of some of her controversial statements through every creative development, including the elaborate search for a writer, which resulted in the hire of <em>Succession<\/em>\u2018s Francesca Gardiner. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe frenzy has now reached fever pitch as the series has begun casting ahead of its s<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/12\/harry-potter-series-to-begin-shooting-summer-at-leavesden-1236195321\/\">ummer 2025 start of production<\/a>. As Gardiner <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/12\/harry-potter-series-to-begin-shooting-summer-at-leavesden-1236195321\/\">revealed this week<\/a> that some 32,000 kids had sent audition tapes for the lead roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron, the series\u2019 producers and casting director Lucy Bevan also have been busy compiling wish lists and checking availabilities of well known British actors for the adult starring roles in one of the most closely watched casting processes ever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAmid a level of secrecy and draconian NDAs of Marvel proportions for all talent involved, there has been a trickle of names rumored for some of the most iconic roles, which are expected to be cast younger than the movies. (Gardiner and series director Mark Mylod <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/Lucy%20Bevan\" target=\"_blank\">revealed this week<\/a> that they will stick to the \u201ccanonical\u201d ages, which means that Severus Snape, for example, will only be 31 and the Dursleys will be much younger than they were in the films.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe first name to make the rounds was Oscar winner <strong>Mark Rylance<\/strong> for the role of Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, played by the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the movies. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/mark-strong\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mark-strong\" data-tag=\"mark-strong\">Mark Strong<\/a> <\/strong>more recently emerged as a prospect for the part, along with<em> I May Destroy You<\/em>\u2018s<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/paapa-essiedu\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paapa-essiedu\" data-tag=\"paapa-essiedu\">Paapa Essiedu<\/a><\/strong> for Potions Master Snape, originated by the late Alan Rickman in the films.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe rumor mill also has been hyping of late Emmy-nominated <em>Bad Sisters<\/em> co-creator\/star <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sharon-horgan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sharon-horgan\" data-tag=\"sharon-horgan\">Sharon Horgan<\/a> <\/strong>as being eyed for Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall, portrayed by the late Maggie Smith in the movies. (There has been conflicting information whether Oscar winner<strong> Rachel Weisz<\/strong> is also on the wish list for the role.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMeanwhile, Emmy-winning <em>Ted Lasso <\/em>fan favorite<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/brett-goldstein\/\" id=\"auto-tag_brett-goldstein\" data-tag=\"brett-goldstein\">Brett Goldstein<\/a><\/strong> has been rumored for the role of Hogwarts\u2019 gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid originated by Robbie Coltrane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNone of the actors are believed to have formal offers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHBO is not engaging in the guessing game, responding to every casting inquiry with a blanket statement: \u201cWe appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation.
