This weekend, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\"><u>Jupiter<\/u><\/a> will reach opposition at 3:50 p.m. EDT (2050 GMT) on Saturday (Dec. 7), offering the best viewing opportunity of the planet in 2024.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest\" data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\"\/>\n<p>Appearing in the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17101-taurus-constellation.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17101-taurus-constellation.html\"><u>constellation Taurus<\/u><\/a>, Jupiter will be visible in the east at sunset, while the sun sets to the west. At this time, Jupiter will be only 380 million miles (611 million kilometers) away, appearing at its brightest and largest to viewers on Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the planet\u2019s proximity, it will not be distinguishable as more than a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/what-is-a-star-main-sequence\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/what-is-a-star-main-sequence\"><u>star-like<\/u><\/a> point of light in the night sky when viewed with the naked eye.
