have set the United States and China on a collision course in the race to return humans to the Moon.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Under a recently revamped plan by NASA, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/nasa-delays-artemis-moon-landing-orion-heat-shield-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artemis II mission<\/a>, which will encircle the lunar body, will now take place no earlier than 2026, with a landing happening no earlier than 2027.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The agency\u2019s decision came after an extensive investigation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/artemis-i-mission-highlights-mega-moon-rocket-launch-orion-splashdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artemis I splashdown<\/a>, which occurred in late 2022.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">NASA said materials became charred and deteriorated unexpectedly during the test mission, which has led to a more extensive analysis of ways to We need to get this next test flight right. That\u2019s how the Artemis campaign succeeds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United States<\/a> is the only country to have successfully landed astronauts on the Moon, but ambitious plans by China may soon change the nature of lunar exploration.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/nasa-delays-artemis-moon-landing-orion-heat-shield-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>NASA DELAYS ARTEMIS MOON LANDING TO 2027 AFTER ORION HEAT SHIELD INVESTIGATION<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">China has already launched several lunar landers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airuniversity.af.edu\/Portals\/10\/CASI\/Conference-2020\/CASI%20Conference%20China%20Space%20Narrative.pdf?ver=FGoQ8Wm2DypB4FaZDWuNTQ%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled intentions of landing humans<\/a> on the Moon by around 2030.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The China National Space Administration (CNSA) is relatively tight-lipped about its future activities, so it is unknown if the projected date has been moved or been delayed.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;It is vital for us to land on the south pole, so that we do not cede portions of that lunar south pole to the Chinese,&#8221; Nelson stated at a recent Artemis briefing. &#8220;I wish that China could be someone that we could cooperate with, and maybe there will be an opportunity in the future. I hope so.
