million people across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S.<\/a> will be getting some relief from the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/near-blizzard-alberta-clipper-winter-storm-northeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bitter blast of arctic air<\/a>, but for those living and working in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/northeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northeast<\/a>, that increase in temperatures coupled with rounds of heavy rain expected to push through the region this week has forecasters concerned about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/flood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flooding<\/a> due to rapid snowmelt.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/how-to-watch-fox-weather-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" Sunday and Monday, with forecast highs rising as much as 10-15 degrees above average instead of the recent below-average temperatures.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">By Monday, about 245 million people from coast to coast will be feeling the milder temperatures, but the warmup will be brief.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>DOWNLOAD THE FREE FOX WEATHER APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">These are by no means <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/summer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">summer<\/a> temperatures, so don&#8217;t go running to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/beaches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beach<\/a> just yet.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/illinois\/chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago<\/a>&#8216;s high temperature is expected to be in the lower 50s on Sunday, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-york\/new-york-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York City<\/a> metro area is expected to be in the mid-50s.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">As we approach the start of the new workweek, temperatures will rise into the 40s and 50s in the Northeast, while northern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/new-england\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England<\/a> will stay on the cooler side.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">But as temperatures rise, the snowmelt will increase, and that could lead to some localized flooding and runoff, especially in areas that just picked up feet of snow from the first significant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/lake-effect-snow-science-explainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lake-effect snowstorms<\/a> of the season.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Warmer temperatures won\u2019t last, however, as another strong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-a-cold-front\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cold front<\/a> pushes through the region on Wednesday. That front will send temperatures plunging once again, reminding millions of people that we haven\u2019t jumped from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/spring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Much-needed rain on the way, New England enjoy the briefly warmer temperatures, rounds of beneficial rain are also expected across the region, including the Interstate 95 corridor from New York City through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/rhode-island\/providence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Providence<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/rhode-island\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rhode Island<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/massachusetts\/boston\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Some areas could receive several inches of rain this week, which will undoubtedly help to alleviate the monthslong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/drought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drought<\/a> that helped fuel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wildfires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wildfires<\/a> across the region, though it won&#8217;t entirely erase the drought.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The first round of rain is expected Monday afternoon, but it won\u2019t be long-duration like what\u2019s expected later this week.<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/why-is-atmospheric-pressure-so-important-to-the-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low pressure<\/a> moving along the U.S.-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada<\/a> border in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/midwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midwest<\/a> will combine with a surge of moisture that\u2019s also fueling a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/south-flash-flooding-threat-tropical-moisture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flood threat in the South<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Rain on Monday morning will mainly affect areas to the west of the I-95 corridor.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Cities like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/pennsylvania\/pittsburgh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pittsburgh<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/pennsylvania\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/ohio\/columbus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Columbus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/ohio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/west-virginia\/charleston\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charleston<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/west-virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Virginia<\/a>, will likely need the umbrellas to start the day.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">By the afternoon, heavier rain will move into the I-95 corridor people from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/connecticut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connecticut<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/maine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maine<\/a>, including Boston, in a Level 2 out of 4 risk for flooding.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">As colder air rushes back into the region behind the cold front fueling Wednesday&#8217;s rainfall, rain could mix with or change over to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/snow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">snow<\/a> over parts of the interior Northeast by Wednesday night.
