Eras became the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/08\/17\/business\/taylor-swift-eras-tour-two-billion\/index.html\">highest-grossing tour of all time<\/a> with an estimated windfall of $2.2 billion.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm4eaeysr00083b6mjcipkriv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the United States, concertgoers spent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ustravel.org\/news\/taylor-swift-impact-5-months-and-5-billion#:~:text=Swift%20fans%E2%80%93%E2%80%93%E2%80%9CSwifties%E2%80%9D,the%20course%20of%20five%20months.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">about as much as football fans<\/a> spend for the Super Bowl \u2014 an average $1,300 on travel, hotels, food and merchandise, according to the US Travel Association. But the Super Bowl is just one game and has two weeks of marketing and promotion, while Swift\u2019s tour hit 23 cities on 62 nights over the course of about five months.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm4e9uni000003b6muhywql0l@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Swifties spent an estimated $5 billion in the United States, according to an estimate by survey company Question Pro. But that total only takes into account direct spending, according to the US Travel Association, and could exceed $10 billion when factoring in indirect spending and when non-ticket holders make purchases outside of the venue.\n    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader inline-placeholder\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/cm4e8325j00063b6mdsr2e01d@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"swiftnomics-revives-post-pandemic-economies\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n        \u2018Swiftnomics\u2019 revives post-pandemic economies<br \/>\n<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm4ebcwkz000e3b6mu4zhh482@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            That spending power was a part of the \u201cTaylor Swift Effect,\u201d which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/travel\/taylor-swift-effect-travel-industry\/index.html\">travel industry<\/a> analysts deemed a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mylighthouse.com\/resources\/blog\/taylor-swift-impact-on-hospitality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hospitality phenomenon.<\/a>\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm4ebh94f000o3b6m1pixvawv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Downtown areas experienced higher traffic and occupancy rates due to the influx of visitors. Swift\u2019s tour raised the average daily cost of rooms to $309, and the city generated $46 million in direct spending from attendees, 83% of whom didn\u2019t live in Allegheny County.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm4ebncjx00123b6m4sjqioje@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The California Center for Jobs &amp; the Economy estimated that Swift\u2019s six-night concert run in Los Angeles increased local employment by 3,300 workers and local earnings by $160 million. Before the \u201cEras\u201d tour hit Los Angeles, hotel jobs were about 15% below their pre-pandemic highest. The US Travel Association estimated Los Angeles County would benefit from another $320 million, with $20 million in sales and local taxes and $9 million in hotel room taxes.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm4ebunjo001c3b6m8cpd83kd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Eras was also a boon for ride-hailing companies. Lyft reported rides were up by an average of 8.2% in cities hosting a Swift concert and that New Orleans saw a 31% increase.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm4ef358s00043b6mx4irirmk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The New Orleans Downtown Development District estimated between <a href=\"https:\/\/downtownnola.com\/swift-lift-taylor-swift-to-make-massive-impact-on-local-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">80-90% of concertgoers were visitors<\/a>. Greater New Orleans, Inc. estimated the concerts\u2019 economic impact to be around $200 million.
