Mohammad Rasoulof took home best director for <em>The Seed of the Sacred Fig<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe association previously announced science fiction legend John Carpenter as this year\u2019s career achievement award, citing his \u201cability to spin stylish, prescient, genre-bending features of otherworldly menace and powerful emotion,\u201d as well as the fact that \u201chis glorious career happens to span our group\u2019s 50-year existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMost years, the organization\u2019s choice for best picture garners an Oscar nomination for the night\u2019s top prize. This was true last year, when <em>Zone of Interest<\/em> took home the LAFCA trophy and later earned a best international feature Oscar, as well as a nomination for best picture. For the third year in a row, the L.A.
