Bennie G. Thompson (the committee\u2019s chairman). \u201cThey deleted and destroyed all evidence.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"Oembed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"Oembed \" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" data-testid=\"oembed-container\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"Oembed__html\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Trump: \u201cCheney&#8230;Bennie Thompson, and everybody on that committee&#8230;should go to jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Q: \u201cSo you think Liz Cheney should go to jail? For what they did, honestly, they should go to jail.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a statement reported by <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics('https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/08\/us\/politics\/liz-cheney-donald-trump.html')\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/08\/us\/politics\/liz-cheney-donald-trump.html\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/08\/us\/politics\/liz-cheney-donald-trump.html\"><i>The New York Times<\/i><\/a>, Cheney responded to Trump\u2019s claims, describing them as an \u201cassault on the rule of law and the foundations of our republic.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHere is the truth: Donald Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election and seize power,\u201d Cheney said. \u201cHe mobilized an angry mob and sent them to the United States Capitol, where they attacked police officers, invaded the building and halted the official counting of electoral votes.
