The TV categories were particularly kind to British and Irish stars, with Keira Knightley, Colin Farrell, Andrew Scott, Gary Oldman, Eddie Redmayne and Ewan McGregor attracting nods for their work in, respectively, Black Doves, The Penguin, Ripley, Slow Horses, The Day of the Jackal and A Gentleman in Moscow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">The migration of movie stars to streaming and the small screen was further evidenced by the presence of Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster, Javier Bardem and Jake Gyllenhaal on the TV shortlists. Steve Martin\u2019s fourth consecutive nomination for the same show marks his ninth Globes nod; he is yet to win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">Although Netflix was the studio with the most nominees this year across both film and TV, one of its small screen crown jewels \u2013 Baby Reindeer \u2013 took a slightly disappointing three nods, while its hit adaptation of the David Nicholls novel One Day was overlooked entirely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2024\/nov\/19\/wicked-review-cynthia-erivo-ariana-grande-wizard-of-oz-stephen-schwartz\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Wicked<\/a>, the musical adaptation currently storming the box office, received nominations for both its lead, Cynthia Erivo, and support Ariana Grande. Moore\u2019s comeback performance is mirrored in the dramatic categories by that of Pamela Anderson, who is nominated for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/article\/2024\/sep\/07\/the-last-showgirl-pamela-anderson-comeback\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">The Last Showgirl<\/a>, alongside Winslet, Angelina Jolie for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/article\/2024\/aug\/29\/maria-review-callas-angelina-jolie-pablo-larrain-paris\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Maria<\/a>, Tilda Swinton for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/article\/2024\/sep\/02\/the-room-next-door-review-almodovar-venice-film-festival-tilda-swinton-julianne-moore\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">The Room Next Door<\/a>, Nicole Kidman for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/article\/2024\/aug\/30\/babygirl-review-nicole-kidman-overwhelmed-by-lust-as-ceo-having-torrid-and-toxic-affair\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Babygirl<\/a> and Fernanda Torres for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/article\/2024\/sep\/01\/im-still-here-review-loving-family-negotiates-the-horror-of-brazils-military-rule\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">I\u2019m Still Here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">But there was no love for Marianne Jean-Baptiste\u2019s performance in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/article\/2024\/sep\/07\/hard-truths-review-a-mike-leigh-classic-of-day-to-day-disillusionment-and-courage\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Hard Truths<\/a> or Saoirse Ronan in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2024\/sep\/27\/the-outrun-review-saoirse-ronan-amy-liptrot-orkney\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">The Outrun<\/a>. For the first time, the organisers are planning a pre-awards luncheon to celebrate their first-time nominees \u2013 which this year include Brody, Plemons, Anderson, Zoe Saldana, Seth Meyers, Richard Gadd, Kathryn Hahn and Glen Powell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">They will also host a standalone ceremony for the recipients of their lifetime achievement awards, with video highlights of Viola Davis and Ted Danson picking up their Cecil B DeMille and Carol Burnett honours then played during the main ceremony. This mirrors the Academy Awards\u2019 strategy with their annual Governors awards, which in 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2024\/nov\/18\/stars-lead-emotional-tributes-to-quincy-jones-at-oscars-governors-awards\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">recognised<\/a> Richard Curtis and Quincy Jones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">Last year\u2019s Globes were the first since the widely discredited Hollywood Foreign Press Association disbanded in 2023, and featured a much wider and more diverse pool of voters than in previous years. Oppenheimer took five awards, while Barbie, The Holdovers, Anatomy of a Fall and Poor Things all trailed with two, while host Jo Koy won some of the worst reviews of any awards ceremony host in recent memory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">This year\u2019s host, comedian Nikki Glaser (whose standup special is also nominated), will preside over the 5 January ceremony, a month and a half before the Baftas on 16 February, which will again be hosted by David Tennant.
