New Jersey plans to roll out gradual increases for small employers and agricultural workers as well, while boosting wages for large employers and long-term care facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">Many other states, including Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Ohio, and Virginia are implementing smaller, annual increases linked directly to the cost of living. These adjustments, tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), are designed to ensure <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/cali-minimum-wage-increase-mcdonalds-wendys-retail-1851537966\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wages stay in line with inflation;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">wages stay in line with inflation<\/a> over time, providing steady, predictable boost for workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">However, not every state is following suit. Seven states \u2013 Arkansas, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, and West Virginia \u2013 won\u2019t be raising their minimum wages in 2025, even though their current rates are above the federal threshold of $7.25 per hour. Hawaii is skipping a step increase this year but plans to resume hikes in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">California has already set a <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/california-20-wage-hike-jobs-menu-increase-retail-1851669676\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:bold example;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">bold example<\/a> when it implemented its <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/new-20-minimum-wage-for-fast-food-workers-in-californi-1851377352\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:$20 minimum wage law;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">$20 minimum wage law<\/a> on April 1, 2024.
