SEPTEMBER 04: Buildings and vehicles are seen in the central business district during the rush hour on September 4, 2020 in Beijing, China.<\/p>\n<p>Zhang Qiao | Visual China Group | Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets were mixed Wednesday, after major Wall Street benchmarks declined ahead of key inflation data that could influence the Federal Reserve&#8217;s interest rate decision.<\/p>\n<p>China is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-12-03\/chinese-leaders-plan-to-discuss-gdp-target-stimulus-next-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly kicking off<\/a> its annual economic work conference on Wednesday to outline its economic policies and growth targets for next year.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s Hang Seng index started the trading session 0.66% higher, while mainland China&#8217;s CSI 300 index was flat.<\/p>\n<p>In South Korea, the blue-chip <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\">Kospi<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> jumped 0.78% and the small-cap Kosdaq rose 2%, a day after the country&#8217;s parliament passed a downsized budget of 673.3 trillion won ($470.60 billion) for 2025 late yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>This is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/south-korea-opposition-party-plans-pass-government-budget-bill-tuesday-2024-12-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly the first time<\/a> that a spending bill had been trimmed down without consent from government ministries.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, South Korea&#8217;s corruption investigation office for high-ranking officials reportedly said it would <a href=\"https:\/\/en.yna.co.kr\/view\/AEN20241211005900315?section=national\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seek the detention and arrest<\/a> of President Yoon Seok Yeol if conditions are met.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/en.yna.co.kr\/view\/AEN20241211005551315?section=national\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media reports emerged<\/a> that police had raided the presidential office as part of an investigation into Yoon&#8217;s brief imposition of martial law.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea also reported a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 2.7% in November, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/kostat.go.kr\/board.es?mid=a20105020000&amp;bid=11732&amp;list_no=434141&amp;act=view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statistics Korea<\/a>, unchanged from the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\">Nikkei 225<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> shed 0.32% while the broad-based Topix traded nearly flat.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> was 0.57% lower.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0fell for a fourth straight day, losing 154.10 points, or 0.35%, to 44,247.83.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0fell 0.3% to end at 6,034.91, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0lost 0.25% to 19,687.24.
