(AP) \u2014 An 11-year-old girl who fell through the ice while trying to help a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/state\/2024\/12\/boy-dies-after-falling-through-ice-in-upstate-ny-girl-critically-hurt-trying-to-save-him-police-say.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12-year-old boy who plunged in<\/a> before her over the weekend has also died, authorities said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3GNZKNEOGRB5NFINAL7G4FTH5I\">The two children were at Washington Park Lake in Albany at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday when the boy tried to walk across the frozen lake and fell through the ice, Albany police said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SP6HXVK7VNGWHHSIJLE4BOLFCI\">The girl followed to try to help the boy but she fell in also, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZDW6ZPQDGFEHNBDNX22SFVKSQM\">Albany police officers and firefighters responded and rescued the girl, who was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital in critical condition.
