(WLUK) &#8212;  The Green Lake County Sheriff&#8217;s Office will host a news conference Wednesday after news that Ryan Borgwardt,<a href=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/ryan-borgwardt-missing-kayaker-watertown-wisconsin-man-faked-death-traveled-europe-uzbekistan-green-lake-sheriff-mark-podoll-what-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/ryan-borgwardt-missing-kayaker-watertown-wisconsin-man-faked-death-traveled-europe-uzbekistan-green-lake-sheriff-mark-podoll-what-to-know\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\"> a man who allegedly faked his death<\/a> and went to Europe<a href=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/online-records-show-ryan-borgwardt-is-in-custody-news-conference-set-for-wednesday\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/online-records-show-ryan-borgwardt-is-in-custody-news-conference-set-for-wednesday\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\"> is in custody.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Borgwardt, 45, was booked into the Green Lake County Jail on Tuesday afternoon. No charges were listed.<\/p>\n<p>The news conference is set for 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Court officials say Borgwardt will appear at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Borgwardt <a href=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/search-underway-for-missing-kayaker-on-big-green-lake-county-dodge-county-sheriffs-office-life-jacket-overturned-dnr-dodge-memorial-park#\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/search-underway-for-missing-kayaker-on-big-green-lake-county-dodge-county-sheriffs-office-life-jacket-overturned-dnr-dodge-memorial-park#\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">was reported missing in August<\/a> after a kayaking trip on Green Lake. For months, local, state, and federal authorities searched for the man they originally thought drowned.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in November, sheriff&#8217;s officials made the shocking announcement that they <a href=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/green-lake-county-sheriff-to-release-new-details-in-search-for-missing-kayaker\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/green-lake-county-sheriff-to-release-new-details-in-search-for-missing-kayaker\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">believe Borgwardt faked his death and traveled to Europe<\/a> after communicating with a woman from Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n<p>The runaway<a href=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/green-lake-county-authorities-to-update-on-missing-man-suspected-of-faking-death-to-flee-to-europe-ryan-borgwardt-kayaker-uzbekistan-wisconsin-sheriffs-office\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/fox11online.com\/news\/local\/green-lake-county-authorities-to-update-on-missing-man-suspected-of-faking-death-to-flee-to-europe-ryan-borgwardt-kayaker-uzbekistan-wisconsin-sheriffs-office\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\"> sent a video to the Green Lake County Sheriff&#8217;s Office <\/a>on Nov. 11 to prove his was alive and safe and wasn&#8217;t being held against his will.<\/p>\n<p>Borgwardt told investigators how he was able to fake his own death, explaining he capsized his kayak on Green Lake, paddling back to shore in a small inflatable boat.<\/p>\n<p>He then rode an e-bike, he stashed near a boat landing, from Green Lake to Madison. From Madison, he said he took a bus to Detroit, crossing over into Canada. Once in Canada, Borgwardt said he took a plane to Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Green Lake County is seeking restitution of $35,000 to $40,000.
