During the previous two launches, SpaceX&#8217;s Starship spacecraft <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/spacex-test-flight-starship-explosion-ocean\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">splashed down in the ocean<\/a> after experiencing scorching and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8m0TY6i1Kuo\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">metal-melting temperatures<\/a> during reentry.<\/p>\n<p>To SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, getting to the point of being able to launch again shortly after landing will be the real litmus test for an extremely ambitious, heavy-lift launch platform that <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/nasa-render-spacex-starship-moon-surface\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">NASA is still hoping to use<\/a> for its first \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/nasa-moon-landing-pushed-back-yet-again\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">and recently delayed<\/a> \u2014 human landing on the Moon since the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The biggest technology challenge remaining for Starship is a fully &amp; immediately reusable heat shield,&#8221; he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1859068810692644949\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">tweeted<\/a> last month. &#8220;Being able to land the ship, refill propellant and launch right away with no refurbishment or laborious inspection.
