But note that the list of compatible devices is much smaller than previous iOS 17 updates \u2014 Apple\u2019s iOS 17.7.3 is available for iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation, iPad Pro 10.5-inch and iPad 6th generation.<\/p>\n<p><fbs-ad position=\"inread\" progressive=\"\" ad-id=\"article-0-inread\" aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This indicates Apple is no longer giving you the option to stay on iOS 17 if you have a iOS 18-compatible device. If you remain on iOS 17, this means you will no longer be secure.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">What\u2019s Fixed In iOS 18.2?<\/h2>\n<p>Apple doesn\u2019t give much detail about what\u2019s fixed in iOS 18.2, to give iPhone users as much time to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2024\/11\/21\/ios-1811-update-now-warning-issued-to-all-iphone-users\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2024\/11\/21\/ios-1811-update-now-warning-issued-to-all-iphone-users\/\" data-ga-track=\"InternalLink:https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2024\/11\/21\/ios-1811-update-now-warning-issued-to-all-iphone-users\/\" aria-label=\"update\" rel=\"noopener\">update<\/a> as possible before criminals can get hold of the details.<\/p>\n<p>Among the issues fixed in iOS 18.2 are three Kernel flaws tracked as CVE-2024-54494, CVE-2024-54510 and CVE-2024-44245, the last of which could allow an app to cause unexpected system termination or corrupt Kernel memory, according to Apple\u2019s support <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/121837\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/121837\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/121837\" aria-label=\"page\">page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An issue in libexpat tracked as <a href=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/cve-2024-45490\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/cve-2024-45490\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/cve-2024-45490\" aria-label=\"CVE-2024-45490\">CVE-2024-45490<\/a> is particularly worrying, as it could see a remote attacker cause an unexpected app termination or execute code.<\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s iOS 18.2 also patches two flaws in <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/documentation\/xpc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/documentation\/xpc\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/documentation\/xpc\" aria-label=\"libxpc,\">libxpc,<\/a> one of which could see an app able to gain elevated privileges.<\/p>\n<p>Four vulnerabilities in WebKit were fixed in iOS 18.2, allowing memory corruption if you were persuaded to interact with malicious web content.<\/p>\n<p>A flaw in Passwords, tracked as CVE-2024-54492 and reported by researchers at Mysk, could also be a concern. Using the vulnerability patched in iOS 18.2, an attacker in a privileged network position could be able to alter network traffic, according to Apple\u2019s description.<\/p>\n<p>The issue was addressed by using secure web protocol HTTPS when sending information over the network. \u201cSince iOS 18 launched, the new Passwords app has been using unencrypted HTTP to download icons for password entries \u2014 a potential risk,\u201d Mysk researchers said.<\/p>\n<p>Sean Wright, head of application security at Featurespace highlights the Passwords flaw seeing HTTP used instead of HTTPS as \u201ca bit of a concern.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He advises \u201cupdating as soon as you can,\u201d highlighting the benefits of the new Apple Intelligence features.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">Other Apple Patches Released Alongside iOS 18.2<\/h2>\n<p>Alongside iOS 18.2 and iOS 17.7.3, Apple released Safari 18.2, fixing four WebKit issues and one Safari flaw.
