The chip brand has launched Lay&#8217;s Golden Grounds which are NFL team branded chips made with spuds grown in soil from 29 of the league&#8217;s stadiums.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Farmers producing one of the nation\u2019s leading vegetables are expected to generate less of the crop in 2024, but there will still be plenty to go around.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/downloads.usda.library.cornell.edu\/usda-esmis\/files\/tm70mv177\/bz60fp33t\/d791v920m\/crop1124.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture<\/a>, the $100 billion potato industry is projected to produce 417 million hundredweight (cwt) of potatoes, marking a decrease of just over 5% from 2023.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The two largest producers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/idaho\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/washington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington<\/a>, are expected to see declines of 6% and 4%, respectively, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/maine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maine<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/michigan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michigan<\/a> are expected to see increases in production.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The expected declines reflect a variety of unfavorable factors, including weather conditions in key potato-growing regions.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Experts say the ideal temperature for potato growth is when nighttime lows are in the 50s and 60s, and daytime highs remain below 80 degrees.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Additionally, wet soil and increased moisture can lead to increased decay and delayed sprouting.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/im-not-lovin-it-weather-impacting-availability-of-worlds-most-popular-fries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>I\u2019M NOT LOVIN IT! rel=\"noopener\">Extreme weather<\/a> in 2020 and 2021 caused delays in potato transport, leading to constraints on the world\u2019s most famous French fries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">McDonald\u2019s relies on potatoes grown in the Pacific Northwest and Canada, including varieties such as Russet Burbank, Ranger Russet, Umatilla Russet and Shepody, to make its products.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Areas of the Pacific Northwest and southwestern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada<\/a> experienced record-breaking amounts of precipitation due to several atmospheric river events from the fall into the winter season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Despite the adverse weather, the company reported no impact on the supply of fries in North America.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/agriculture.canada.ca\/en\/sector\/horticulture\/reports\/potato-market-information-review-2023-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to the Canadian government<\/a>, potatoes are the fifth-largest crop in the country, following canola, wheat, soybeans, and corn.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Canadian growers are expected to generate a record potato crop in 2024, marking at least the fourth consecutive year of record production.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/when-where-plants-harvest-grow-us-farming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WHAT SEASON DO FRUITS AND VEGETABLES GROW IN?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Despite a decrease in export volume from the U.S., the value of the products grew to a record $2.3 billion during the period from July 2023 to June 2024, according to Potatoes USA.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/mexico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mexico<\/a> is considered to be the country\u2019s largest export market, followed by Canada, Japan and several other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/asia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asian<\/a> countries.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Depending on the variety, harvests can start in July and run through October, and are considered to be labor-intensive.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to the USDA, potato chips are the most popular variety at home, while other
