That\u2019s included talk of a split of the company\u2019s manufacturing and product-design operations.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->\u201cThat\u2019s an open question for another day,\u201d Zinsner said in response to an analyst question.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->The two units are already separated operationally, with different oversight and accounts, he said. Gelsinger, who served as CEO from 2021 until last week, had maintained that the two main parts of the company were better kept together.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Johnston Holthaus said that access to leading production technology is a an advantage for Intel\u2019s products.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->\u201cSo pragmatically, do I think it makes sense that they\u2019re completely separated and there\u2019s no ties?\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t think so, but someone will decide that.\u201d<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->The shares gained 3.3% to $20.78 in New York. They had plunged 60% through Wednesday\u2019s close.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->The executives broke with their predecessor\u2019s more bullish messaging and emphasized that it will take time to fix Intel\u2019s competitiveness and finances. They pointed to progress in personal computer chips but also struggles ahead in data center products. Intel\u2019s outsourced manufacturing effort, which involves making chips for outside clients, is another challenge.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Management will focus less on talking about \u201cearly indications of success\u201d and more on concrete achievements, Zinsner said. They also will dispense with giving \u201cmeaningless\u201d long-term total deal value predictions for the company\u2019s outsourced production efforts, he added.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Johnston Holthaus said that Intel needs to invest more in its products and is willing to deal with near-term down years to make sure it has offerings that will be more competitive in the long run.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Johnston Holthaus, known internally as \u201cMJ,\u201d also said that rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has done a better job of providing their shared customers with data center products they want. In 2025, the executive will focus on trying to halt the market-share loss that Intel has suffered, she said. The company\u2019s Gaudi chip is difficult to use, Johnston Holthaus acknowledged.
