Forecasters are warning of treacherous travel conditions over the weekend.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>DES MOINES, Iowa \u2013 <\/strong>Days of freezing temperatures and a surge of moisture will create potentially dangerous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> conditions across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/midwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midwest<\/a> this weekend from ice and snow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;This is really going to set the stage for possibly a big icing event to take place later in the week in parts of Iowa,&#8221; FOX Weather Meteorologist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/person\/e\/michael-estime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Estime<\/a> said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Central%20Freezing%20Rain%20Setup.png\"\/><fig-caption>Ice event set up.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/fig-caption><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Beginning Friday night, freezing rain is possible across areas in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/nebraska\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nebraska<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/iowa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iowa<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/minnesota\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wisconsin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wisconsin<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Potentially treacherous travel Friday night into Saturday morning as freezing rain develops (greater than 80% chance) and coats surfaces with ice,&#8221; forecasters with the NWS in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/iowa\/des-moines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Des Moines<\/a> said. &#8220;Freezing rain will transition to rain from south to north across the state into Saturday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The NWS Des Moines said there is potential for 0.1-0.2 inches of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/how-measure-ice-accretion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ice accretion<\/a> north of Interstate 80 in Iowa. According to the FOX Forecast Center, additional ice accretions are possible across areas including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/wisconsin\/madison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madison<\/a> in Wisconsin, Minneapolis and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/minnesota\/rochester\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rochester<\/a> in Minnesota and northwestern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/illinois\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Illinois<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of Iowa, southeastern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/south-dakota\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Dakota<\/a>, eastern Nebraska, southwest Minnesota and northern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/missouri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Missouri<\/a> through Saturday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The advisory area may experience total snow and sleet accumulations under one inch and ice accretions around 0.1-0.2 inches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Central%20WSSI%20Ice%20Accumulation.png\"\/><fig-caption>Ice accumulation forecast.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/fig-caption><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A significant ice event could lead to power outages from downed trees and powerlines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Just a half an inch of ice can actually add upwards of 280 pounds of weight to a power line,&#8221; Estime said. &#8220;Depending on how much ice we see, downed tree limbs, maybe a couple of power outages into early Saturday morning, Iowa, something that we&#8217;ll be watching.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Conditions should warm and improve by later Saturday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1660802\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/ice-midwest-treacherous-travel-conditions\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arctic air has plunged temperatures across the U.S. In the Midwest, moisture moving into the region will reintroduce the threat of freezing rain and icy road conditions.
