The Lakeland resident then allegedly said: \u201cDelay, deny, depose. You people are next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">The language is the same as that found written on ammunition discovered at the scene of the killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/brian-thompson-shooting\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Brian Thompson<\/a>. The killing was carried out by a masked gunman, which also triggered a national outpouring on social media by Americans outraged at their treatment by their for-profit healthcare firms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">The words have been closely associated with the title of a 2010 book written by the legal scholar and insurance expert Jay Feinman, a professor emeritus at Rutgers Law School in New Jersey, called Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don\u2019t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/dec\/09\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-shooting-suspect-arrested\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Luigi Mangione<\/a>, 26, is a suspect in the killing and faces second-degree murder and other charges in both Pennsylvania and New York. He was captured after an intense manhunt lasting several days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">According to the arrest affidavit obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/florida-woman-charged-threatening-health-insurance-company-delay\/story?id=116748222\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">ABC news<\/a> when Lakeland police confronted Boston, she apologized and said that she \u201cused those words because it\u2019s what is in the news right now\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">Boston told police she did not own any guns and is not a threat.
