Here is a look at some of the craziest New Year&#8217;s Eve celebrations, and their potential impact on the the ball drop in Times Square this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>NEW YORK \u2013<\/strong> The show will go on in the City That Never Sleeps despite ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/drought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drought<\/a> concerns and the threat posed by fireworks.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-york\/new-york-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York City<\/a> Mayor Eric Adams and other officials announced Monday that they had lifted the citywide ban on open flames and fireworks following recent rainfall across the five boroughs.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;While we\u2019ve received enough rain in the five boroughs to lift our fireworks and open flame ban, but I want to be clear, we\u2019re nowhere near out of the woods yet,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/office-of-the-mayor\/news\/907-24\/mayor-adams-lifts-flame-firework-ban-reduced-fire-risk-urges-new-yorkers-continue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adams said in a statement<\/a>. &#8220;New Yorkers who get permits for these activities should enjoy them, but we need you to use the utmost levels of caution to prevent fires and keep our parks safe. And the rain we\u2019ve received isn\u2019t nearly the additional foot of rain we\u2019d need to replenish our upstate reservoirs, so we need all New Yorkers to continue conserving water whenever you can.&#8221;\u202f<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Dry conditions led to dozens of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wildfires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wildfires<\/a> erupting in November as drought conditions reached severe levels, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The weather observation site in Central Park recently reported a yearly rainfall deficit of nearly 4&#8243; with similar standings in Newark and Queens.<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Northeast%20Drought%20Monitor%20Comparison.png\"\/><figcaption>Northeast drought status<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/ladders-at-the-ready-for-ice-rescues-in-new-york-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>LADDERS AT THE READY FOR ICE RESCUES IN NEW YORK CITY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Millions of people annually celebrate New Year\u2019s in the city, attending events such as the Times Square ball drop, celebrations in Prospect Park and a midnight run around Central Park.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Some groups that typically host annual firework displays around the city have scaled back and opted for light shows instead of fireworks that could potentially spark a blaze.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">One of these locations is Prospect Park, where a small brush fire popped up in mid-November, sending smoke into Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;In light of the unprecedented drought conditions and recent fire, for the first time this year, this 44-year tradition will pivot from fireworks to a light show celebration in Brooklyn\u2019s Backyard. The event will include live entertainment by Quintessential Playlist starting at 10 pm.
