He faces separate charges in Pennsylvania for carrying a gun without a license, forgery, falsely identifying himself to the authorities and possessing \u201cinstruments of crime\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">Mangione\u2019s defense attorney in Pennsylvania, Thomas Dickey, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/dec\/10\/unitedhealthcare-shooting-suspect-court-screams\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">has said<\/a> that his client will plead not guilty to the charges against him in Pennsylvania and he has been fighting extradition to New York. We are not here to celebrate violence, but we do believe in the constitutional right of fair legal representation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">The fundraiser added that all proceeds would be sent directly to Mangione, unless he rejected them, in which case they would be provided to other defendants with whom the campaign sympathizes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">GiveSendGo\u2019s communications director, Alex Shipley, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/internet\/gofundme-pulls-luigi-mangione-fundraisers-another-platform-featuring-o-rcna184044\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">told NBC News<\/a> in a statement that the crowdsourcing platform believed \u201cevery person is entitled to due process in a court of law \u2013 not in the court of public opinion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">\u201cTo be absolutely clear, we do not support or condone vigilante justice,\u201d Shipley said, seeming to allude to the widespread belief that Thompson\u2019s killing may have been linked to the largely privatized US healthcare industry\u2019s routine denial of payments to many Americans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s3ycb2\">\u201cHowever, people have a constitutional right to a strong legal defense, and access to that defense should not be reserved only for the wealthy or those who fit a particular narrative.
