width: 0; min-width: 100%; \" wp_automatic_readability=\"2\" id=\"xp-iframe-m4rmxgfru2jyjyug5y\"><\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>    <\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Personalized cancer vaccines are designed to teach the immune system how to recognize and attack proteins specific to that patient&#8217;s cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">To do this, vaccines use genetic material called RNA from a patient&#8217;s own tumor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In the same way traditional vaccines use part of the virus to prevent disease, these use harmless proteins from the surface of cancer cells, known as antigens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">When these antigens are introduced into the body, it should stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies against them, which then kill the cancer cells.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Other countries have also been working to develop their own personalized cancer vaccines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In May, researchers at the University of Florida <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/health\/article-13372055\/brain-cancer-vaccine-Covid-Beau-Biden.html\" rel=\"noopener\">tested an individualized vaccine<\/a>\u00a0in four patients with glioblastoma, the aggressive brain cancer that killed Senator John McCain and Beau Biden.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The team found that the shot triggers a strong immune response just two days after injection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Senior study author Elias Sayour, a UF Health pediatric oncologist, said: &#8216;In less than 48 hours, we could see these tumors shifting from what we refer to as &#8220;cold&#8221;
