you\u2019re standing up, then it could be pulsatile tinnitus,\u201d Youn continued.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK553153\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pulsatile tinnitus<\/a> is a relatively rare condition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2773021224000178?dgcid=rss_sd_all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">believed to affect 3 million to 5 million Americans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p>In one or both ears, patients hear a rhythmic noise \u2014 such as a swooshing or whooshing sound \u2014 that matches their pulse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2773021224000178?dgcid=rss_sd_all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One 59-year-old male patient recently described<\/a> it as occurs when there\u2019s a disturbance in the blood flow in the arteries and veins\u00a0near or around the ears.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough it\u2019s usually benign, there are some potentially concerning causes, so it\u2019s best to see your doctor,\u201d Youn said.<\/p>\n<p>Pulsatile tinnitus can be caused by an ear blockage, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/14\/health\/untreated-high-blood-pressure-linked-to-higher-alzheimers-risk\/\">high blood pressure<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/11\/27\/health\/this-red-flag-is-often-overlooked-when-measuring-risk-of-heart-attack\/\">narrowed veins or arteries<\/a> in the head and neck, an abnormal connection between arteries and veins, benign head or neck tumors, elevated pressure within the brain, and less commonly, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/26\/health\/1-in-3-adults-has-an-iron-deficiency-study-finds-look-for-these-7-symptoms\/\">anemia<\/a> and pregnancy, which make the heart work harder.<\/p>\n<p>The condition is typically diagnosed with an examination of the ears, neck and head, hearing tests and imaging scans to see what\u2019s going on with the blood vessels.<\/p>\n<figure
