Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, at a news conference on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The assassination of the chief executive, Brian Thompson, on Dec. 4 in the heart of Manhattan set off a dayslong manhunt and captivated Americans, many of whom <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/10\/nyregion\/uhc-shooting-luigi-mangione-brian-thompson.html\" title=\"\">vented their frustrations<\/a> on dealings with health insurance companies. Some voiced their support for Mr. Mangione and rooted for him to elude capture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">But on Tuesday, prosecutors said that Mr. Mangione\u2019s actions were meant to further terrorism.
