{"id":138427,"date":"2024-12-18T14:27:51","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T07:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=138427"},"modified":"2024-12-18T14:27:51","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T07:27:51","slug":"hidden-junk-fees-banned-by-ftc-for-live-events-tickets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=138427","title":{"rendered":"Hidden Junk Fees Banned by FTC for Live Events Tickets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt\u2019s about to get easier to compare prices for tickets to live events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday finalized a rule requiring businesses to disclose total prices, including any hidden fees, in a transparent and upfront manner. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn a statement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ftc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ftc_1\" data-tag=\"ftc\">FTC<\/a> chair Lina Khan said that the rule will save consumers \u201cbillions of dollars and millions of hours in wasted time.\u201d She added, \u201cPeople deserve to know up-front what they\u2019re being asked to pay\u2014without worrying that they\u2019ll later be saddled with mysterious fees that they haven\u2019t budgeted for and can\u2019t avoid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe rule doesn\u2019t prohibit any type of fee. Instead, it requires businesses to tell consumers the total price, inclusive of any mandatory fees, whenever they offer the cost. The true total must be displayed more prominently than other pricing information. Companies that exclude allowable fees, like shipping or taxes, must clearly disclose them before payment information is entered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe FTC proposed the rule last year. Thousands of consumers wrote in favor of the proposal, with many complaining of hidden fees imposed by Ticketmaster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI bought 7 concert tickets for a group of friends via Ticketmaster\u2019s website,\u201d wrote Jennifer Davis to the FTC last year. \u201cThe advertised price of each ticket was $53. The actual price was $74.70 because FOR EACH TICKET I was charged a \u2018Service Fee\u2019 ($14.70) and a \u2018Facility Charge\u2019 ($6). There was also an additional \u2018Order Processing Charge\u2019 ($5) for the whole transaction. That\u2019s almost a 50% markup. Ticketmaster is a monopoly and it has been allowed to overcharge customers with these junk fees for too long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe rule was issued as Ticketmaster continues to fight an antitrust lawsuit seeking to break up the company. Parent company Live Nation supported the all-in pricing initiative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cBecause the practice of adding these charges to the ticket\u2019s face value has been so longstanding, consumers have come to expect service fees when purchasing a ticket to a live entertainment event \u2013 but it is impossible for consumers to anticipate the amount of applicable fees because those rates are set by hundreds of different venues and can vary accordingly,\u201d it wrote in a comment to the FTC. \u201cConsumers therefore need clear disclosures about the true price of a ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe rule passed on a four-to-one vote. The lone dissent came from Andrew Ferguson, who will serve as the agency\u2019s next chair. Like with other rules proposed by the FTC he dissented on grounds that the FTC doesn\u2019t have the authority to adopt the regulation. He wrote, \u201cThe Democratic majority\u2019s four-year regulatory assault on American businesses has hindered economic growth and increased costs to the American consumer. The American people resoundingly rejected this approach at the ballot box in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKhan\u2019s tenure as head of the FTC has seen the passage of consumer and labor-friendly rules, including a ban on noncompetes and a requirement that companies make it as easy to cancel subscriptions as it is to sign up.
