{"id":138432,"date":"2024-12-18T14:51:50","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T07:51:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=138432"},"modified":"2024-12-18T14:51:50","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T07:51:50","slug":"trump-sues-des-moines-register-newspaper-claiming-election-interference-media-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=138432","title":{"rendered":"Trump sues Des Moines Register newspaper, claiming \u2018election interference\u2019 | Media News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\"><em>US president-elect\u2019s lawsuit comes days after reaching defamation settlement with ABC News.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>United States President-elect Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit accusing a newspaper and a polling firm of engaging in \u201cbrazen election interference\u201d by publishing a pre-election survey that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/11\/8\/us-election-results-how-did-opinion-polls-undercount-trump-voters-again\">underestimated his popularity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit filed late on Monday accuses The Des Moines Register newspaper, its parent company Gannett and pollster Ann Selzer of intentionally downplaying Trump\u2019s support in a poll that showed him trailing Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n<p>The November 2 poll, which showed Harris ahead by three percentage points in Iowa, generated widespread attention as Trump easily carried the midwestern state in the 2016 and 2020 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Trump won Iowa in last month\u2019s presidential election by more than 13 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelzer\u2019s polling \u2018miss\u2019 was not an astonishing coincidence \u2013 it was intentional,\u201d the lawsuit filed in Iowa\u2019s Polk County said. \u201cAs President Trump observed: \u2018She knew exactly what she was doing.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, which bases its claims on alleged breaches of Iowa consumer fraud law, seeks triple the damages incurred as determined by a jury.<\/p>\n<p>Lark-Marie Anton, a spokeswoman for The Des Moines Register, said the newspaper stood behind its reporting and viewed the lawsuit as without merit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have acknowledged that the Selzer\/Des Moines Register pre-election poll did not reflect the ultimate margin of President Trump\u2019s Election Day victory in Iowa by releasing the poll\u2019s full demographics, cross-tabs, weighted and unweighted data, as well as a technical explanation from pollster Ann Selzer,\u201d Anton said.<\/p>\n<p>Selzer did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but said in an interview with PBS last week that she was mystified why anyone would think she had designed the poll to generate a particular result.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawsuit comes just days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/12\/15\/abc-news-agrees-to-pay-15m-to-settle-trump-defamation-suit\">ABC News agreed to settle<\/a> a defamation case he brought over anchor George Stephanopoulos\u2019s inaccurate assertion that he had been found civilly liable for rape.<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, a civil liberties organisation, condemned the lawsuit as a \u201cdirect assault\u201d on the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf newspapers and polling firms are sued for \u2018deceptive practices\u2019 because they publish stories and poll results politicians don\u2019t like, every media outlet\u2019s First Amendment rights are threatened.
