Both the morning and evening commutes on Thursday could be treacherous, with snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;So that&#8217;s a good little shot of snow, something they have not seen in Minneapolis,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/person\/v\/bob-van-dillen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FOX Weather meteorologist Bob Van Dillen<\/a>. &#8220;So, we&#8217;ve got Winter Weather Advisories that have just been upgraded to Winter Storm Warnings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/weather-winter-warning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WHY YOU\u2019LL SEE FEWER WINTER ALERTS ON THE WEATHER MAPS THIS YEAR<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/North%20Snow%20QPF.png\"\/><figcaption>Snowfall forecast<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">As the snowfall ends, a cold front is expected to kick up wind gusts to reach 50 mph over the Plains, with communities in the Upper Midwest likely seeing winds in the 30-40 mph range.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">These strong winds will lead to blowing snow, potentially causing additional travel difficulties on roadways and at airports.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Hundreds of personnel are typically on standby from October through April to respond to frozen precipitation and keep aircraft flying into and out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/minnesota\/minneapolis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minneapolis<\/a>-Saint Paul International Airport with minimal disruptions.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-an-alberta-clipper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WHAT IS AN ALBERTA CLIPPER, MANITOBA MAULER, SASKATCHEWAN SCREAMER?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The quick-hitting snowfall event is expected to mark the heaviest accumulation so far this season for cities such as Minneapolis and Green Bay.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Since meteorological winter began on Dec. 1, the Twin Cities has reported only 1.3&#8243; of snowfall, nearly a foot below average.
