It\u2019s Superman. It\u2019s Clark Kent. What\u2019s cool is seeing all your <em>friends<\/em> up there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe\u2019s not just talking about Brosnahan and Hoult, either. When Gunn and his fellow DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/dc-universe-superman-legacy-batman-green-lantern-supergirl-booster-gold-1235507426\/\">first announced their slate<\/a> in January 2023, they made clear that their reboot of Superman would also officially reboot the DC Universe as a fully unified creative endeavor that would capture the rich breadth of characters established over nearly 90 years within the wider DC Comics. (The animated DC series \u201cCreature Commandos,\u201d which is currently streaming on Max, is meant to be <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/tv\/news\/james-gunn-creature-commandos-launches-new-dc-universe-1236235324\/\">a \u201csoft intro\u201d<\/a> to the DCU \u2014 an appetizer to \u201cSuperman\u2019s\u201d main course.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn practice, that means that for the first time in live-action, the \u201cSuperman\u201d movie franchise is launching in the same cinematic universe as dozens upon dozens of metahumans and super-powered creatures that range from famous in their own right to totally obscure to the general public. Imagine Christopher Reeve\u2019s Superman flying in the first \u201cSuperman\u201d movie next to Martian Manhunter, Hawkman and Blue Beetle \u2014 or Robert Downey Jr.\u2019s Tony Stark fighting in the first \u201cIron Man\u201d movie alongside Doctor Strange, Shang-Chi and Wanda Maximoff. The filmmakers and studios behind those earlier comic book movies believed audiences could only handle one superhero at a time. But thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, filmgoers have been conditioned to accept a movie in which a multitude of superheroes occupy the screen at the same time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnd good gravy, are there are a lot of them in the first look at Gunn\u2019s new film.
