It was active as long as a billion years ago or more,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradogeologicalsurvey.org\/about\/cgs-staff\/jay-temple\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mapping Geologist<\/a> Jay Temple told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=600527629136959\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Custer County sheriff&#8217;s office<\/a> on Monday. &#8220;It\u2019s not active now, or at least it may settle occasionally, but it is not a technically active fault.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/faqs\/what-a-fault-and-what-are-different-types\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USGS<\/a>, &#8220;A fault is a fracture or zone of fractures between two blocks of rock. This type of movement can occur rapidly, like an earthquake. Or slowly in the form of a creep.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/ketchikan-alaska-landslide-damage-rescue-sunday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>DISASTER DECLARED IN ALASKA AFTER DEADLY LANDSLIDE DESTROYS HOMES IN KETCHIKAN<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A creep is steady fault movements that can last minutes or days.
