Some cities could be in store for a foot of snow, while ice will be a major concern for others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">One of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/us-arctic-blast-temperatures-january-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coldest Januarys in more than a decade<\/a>, as well as geopolitical issues around the globe, have caused a spike in the natural gas market, which is expected to lead to increased costs for consumers.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Since the beginning of December, natural gas prices have surged nearly 25% but are still well below levels experienced in 2022.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The commodity\u2019s availability and efficiency make it a cost-effective method of heating millions of homes and businesses across North America.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">NOAA forecasters expect several waves of cold air to impact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S.<\/a> through mid-January, putting the month on track to be one of the coldest months experienced in several years.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">During the height of the cold weather, more than 200 million Americans are expected to see below-average temperatures, which will reach the Interstate 10 corridor and the Gulf Coast.<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/CPC%20Temp%20Outlook%208-14%20Day.png\"\/><figcaption>Cold weather outlook<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/driving-pay-cheapest-gas-pump-where-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>SUMMER HEAT WAVES CONTRIBUTING TO RISE IN GAS PRICES, ANALYSTS WARN<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The combination of cold temperatures and wind is expected to send real-feel temperatures to at least -20 degrees below zero, if not colder, in the Upper Midwest.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Risks of both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-hypothermia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">frostbite and hypothermia<\/a> will be a concern for people and pets who are exposed to the elements for extended periods.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Warming centers have been opened in dozens of states that are expected to see the potential for life-threatening weather.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Phil Flynn, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/natural-gas-prices-spike-forecasts-colder-than-expected-winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an energy market analyst and FOX Business contributor<\/a>, noted that while the U.S. has abundant natural gas supplies, the country has become complacent about the demand side of the equation since it has become accustomed to anomalous warmth.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;When you get a cold event like this, not only do you see record demand, but then you have the possibility of infrastructure freezing up,&#8221;
