While this front isn\u2019t the primary focus, it has the potential to trigger brief snow squalls during the midday and afternoon hours. Central New York and Pennsylvania should be alert for these quick bursts of snow, which could bring periods of low visibility and gusty winds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>BUFFALO, N.Y. <\/strong>\u2013 Nearly 1 million people in the state of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York<\/a> are under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/watch\/play-608ad927e000fad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lake-Effect Snow Warnings<\/a> on Monday, concentrated mostly in the areas south of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-york\/buffalo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buffalo<\/a> and around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-york\/watertown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Watertown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This is the first day of what the FOX Forecast Center expects to be multiple rounds of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/lake-effect-snow-science-explainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lake-effect snow<\/a> lasting through midweek, primarily impacting the southern shore of Lake Erie from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/pennsylvania\/erie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Erie<\/a>, Pennsylvania, to near and south of Buffalo, as well as the eastern shore of Lake Ontario across the Tug Hill Plateau and Watertown area.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This region has seen some of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/snow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">snow<\/a> in the country this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter<\/a> season.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">On Monday, the FOX Forecast Center is tracking the potential for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-are-snow-squalls-why-are-they-dangerous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">snow squalls<\/a> during the midday and afternoon hours in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/pennsylvania\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania<\/a> and western, central and upstate New York, which could impact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/watch\/play-54c3aa0cb000f48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>SNOW SQUALLS: DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER PHENOMENA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Great%20Lakes%20Winter%20Alerts.png\"\/><figcaption>Current winter weather alerts in the Great Lakes region.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">These events bring quick bursts of snow, which produce poor driving conditions, including periods of low <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/visibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visibility<\/a> and gusty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Sunday that crews across the state were getting into position to deal with the snow.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;We are closely monitoring the lake-effect snow system moving through parts of our state, and doing everything we can to make sure we are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/prepare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prepared<\/a>,&#8221; said Hochul in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-urges-caution-lake-effect-snow-approaches-parts-western-new-york-finger-lakes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/how-to-watch-fox-weather-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Buffalo%20Metro%20Futuretrack.png\"\/><figcaption>Future radar and winds for western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The heaviest snowfall is expected to target the southern shore of Lake Erie from Erie to near and south of Buffalo and the eastern shore of Lake Ontario around the Watertown area. Snowfall totals in these locations could exceed a foot, with more than 2 feet likely to pile up south of Watertown over the Tug Hill Plateau.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This is the fourth major lake-effect snow event for that region this season, including a snow band that set up during the morning rush hour just south of Buffalo in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/extreme-weather\/lake-effect-snow-whiteout-erie-hamburg-i90\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mid-December causing several crashes and snarling traffic along Interstate 90<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A common pattern this winter has brought the highest snow totals and heaviest lake-effect snow bands skewing towards Erie along the I-90 corridor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Erie has been walloped by 81.3 inches of snow this season, while Buffalo has received significantly less snow with 27.8 inches, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/watch\/play-787677479000e62\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>LAKE-EFFECT SNOW CAUSES ACCIDENTS ON
