which ranges from about 400 to 1,000 hours of temperatures between 32 \u00b0F and 45 \u00b0F.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winters<\/a> have been too warm for these crops to thrive, but recent cold snaps may lead to better quality fruit this season.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In areas that experienced snowfall, the powder can even act as an insulator, protecting crops from damage from cold air temperatures.<\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/CONUS%20Drought%20Monitor%20Map%20Only.png\"\/><figcaption>U.S. Drought Map<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/cucumber-imports-restaurant-shortage-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>NATIONAL PICKLE SHORTAGE TIED TO EXTREME WEATHER IN MEXICO<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In Louisiana, crawfish are an important commodity, but here, too, agricultural experts were optimistic that most crustaceans would live to see another day.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;We don\u2019t foresee it being more than a temporary slowdown,&#8221; Todd Fontenot, a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lsuagcenter.com\/articles\/page1737736308551\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LSU AgCenter<\/a>, stated. &#8220;Since crawfish are cold-blooded, their bodies slow down and they burrow as low as they can get in the mud and vegetation and stay there to protect themselves from the elements and predators because they are most vulnerable at that stage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Since temperatures rebounded quickly to the 60s and 70s, it\u2019s unlikely there will be long-term effects on the crawfish harvest.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;I think we\u2019re going to rebound faster than previous years where it might have stayed in the 40s the week following a hard freeze,&#8221;
