What a sight,&#8221; a resident of the Prairie State wrote on social media.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The bright streaks resembled a shooting star but with a much more dramatic display.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Jonathan McDowell, a famed astronomer, said the debris appeared to be part of a satellite from SpaceX\u2019s Starlink constellation, which was being closely tracked by space agencies.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;If it reentered around 9:03 PM CST, it would have been over Milwaukee, matching the widespread observations from neighboring areas, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/illinois\/chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago<\/a>,&#8221; McDowell stated on X.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/nc-space-x-seven-debris-trunk-find\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PIECE OF SUSPECTED SPACE DEBRIS FOUND IN RURAL NORTH CAROLINA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.starlink.com\/updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to SpaceX<\/a>, &#8220;Starlink satellites operate in a low Earth orbit below 600 km altitude. Atmospheric drag at these altitudes will deorbit a satellite naturally in 5 years or less, depending on the altitude and satellite design, should one fail on orbit.
