FOX Weather Meteorologist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/person\/m\/jane-minar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jane Minar<\/a> said. &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/louisiana\/new-orleans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Orleans<\/a>, we\u2019re watching for the opportunity of severe weather on the board.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The overall severe weather threat on Wednesday night will be on the lower side due to limited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/atmosphere\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">atmospheric<\/a> energy, but storms are still possible.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">NOAA\u2019s Storm Prediction Center (SPC) placed about 9.5 million people from Central and North Texas to far south-central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/oklahoma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oklahoma<\/a> in a Level 1 out of 5 risk on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/weather-geek-speak-severe-weather-categories-explained\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5-point severe thunderstorm risk scale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This includes the Dallas-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/texas\/fort-worth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fort Worth<\/a> Metroplex, as well as other Texas cities like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/texas\/arlington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arlington<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/texas\/plano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plano<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/texas\/garland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>DOWNLOAD THE FREE FOX WEATHER APP<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/South%20Multi-Day%20Severe%20Outlook.png\"\/><figcaption>This graphic shows the severe weather threat on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The main threats from thunderstorms that do fire up will be some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/hail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hail<\/a> and damaging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wind<\/a> gusts across the densely populated Interstate 35 corridor, but some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/tornadoes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tornadoes<\/a> are possible Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;It\u2019s interesting because this time of year, there\u2019s not a ton of available storm energy,&#8221; FOX Weather Meteorologist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/person\/m\/britta-merwin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Britta Merwin<\/a> said. &#8220;But what happens is we get low-level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/wind-shear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wind shear<\/a>, that\u2019s the change of wind speed and direction close to the ground, a little bit above the ground, and usually when we get tornadoes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/southeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Southeast<\/a>, Texas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/louisiana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louisiana<\/a> this time of year, it\u2019s because of the low-level wind shear.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">It\u2019s not only the threat of thunderstorms on Wednesday that has forecasters concerned.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/nighttime-tornadoes-how-you-stay-safe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>NIGHTTIME TORNADOES: HOW YOU CAN STAY SAFE FROM NOCTURNAL TWISTERS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/South%20Rain%20QPF.png\"\/><figcaption>This graphic shows the forecast rain totals through Friday, Jan. 31, 2025.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Heavy rain is likely to fall across the southern Plains on Wednesday from East Texas through the mid- and lower <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/mississippi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mississippi<\/a> Valley, and the threat of heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/precipitation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">precipitation<\/a> and more severe weather continues into Thursday.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The FOX Forecast Center said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-a-cold-front\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cold front<\/a> will continue to slide off to the east on Thursday, and daytime heating will provide additional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/atmosphere\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">atmospheric<\/a> energy to help fire up more thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">More than 20 million people from eastern Texas to the lower Mississippi Valley will be at risk of seeing severe thunderstorms on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-to-do-during-multiple-weather-warnings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>STAY OR GO? TRUSTING YOUR GUT CAN BE LIFESAVING WHEN MULTIPLE WEATHER WARNINGS ARE ISSUED<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/texas\/the-woodlands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Woodlands<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/texas\/beaumont\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beaumont<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/texas\/pasadena\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pasadena<\/a> in Texas, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/louisiana\/lafayette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lafayette<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/louisiana\/alexandria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexandria<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/louisiana\/lake-charles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lake Charles<\/a> in Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The main threats will again be the risk of hail, damaging wind gusts and even some tornadoes.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">These are some of the same areas that experienced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/blizzard-blasts-south-record-snow-texas-florida-carolinas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rare and historic blizzard last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/flood-insurance-protecting-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>PLAN, PREPARE, PROTECT: HOW TO BEST COVER YOUR target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kentucky<\/a> in a Level 2 out of 4 risk of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/7-facts-you-should-know-about-flash-floods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flash flooding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/explaining-flood-alerts-issued-by-national-weather-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flood Watches<\/a> are already in effect across portions of southeastern Oklahoma and eastern and northern areas of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/arkansas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arkansas<\/a>, and those are likely to be expanded as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/precipitation\" target=\"_blank\"
