Hear how lives along the Gulf Coast were changed forever.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>NEW ORLEANS<\/strong> \u2013 Developers are tearing down the Six Flags amusement complex in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/louisiana\/new-orleans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Orleans<\/a> two decades after it was decimated during Hurricane Katrina.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Many remember the devastation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/watch\/play-58dde4f33000d7d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hurricane Katrina<\/a> that devoured the city of New Orleans in 2005, leaving the Six Flags Complex in Eastern New Orleans in shambles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">20 years later, the ruins of the once great amusement park remain as an ugly scar in the city&#8217;s history. Wind gusts up to 100 mph were observed during this record-breaking storm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In addition, torrential rains overwhelmed the city&#8217;s extensive levee system, triggering extensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/flood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flooding<\/a>. Up to 80% of New Orleans was underwater.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">FOX Weather correspondent Brandy Campbell had the privilege of growing up in the New Orleans area, and remembers the amusement park well.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;It was a spot my sisters and I loved going to as it was one of the biggest attractions in the city for families,&#8221; said Campbell. &#8220;The big rides were my favorites, like the Mega Zeph. It&#8217;s the big wooden coaster that you can still see as you pass the park from the interstate. Unfortunately, it&#8217;s been a reminder of what Katrina took from the city that was never revived. Bush Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\"><strong>What are the plans going forward?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Developers Bayou Phoenix plan on carefully studying the pre-existing infrastructure and foundational issues within those structures before moving forward tearing down 62 structures \u2013 including the Mega Zeph \u2013 according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox8live.com\/2025\/01\/28\/developers-continue-demolition-former-six-flags-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FOX 8 New Orleans.<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Plans for reconstruction strive for a family-friendly environment\u2014a destination with a valued marketplace to fill the hole that New Orleans has been missing since 2005.
