He quickly learned the noise was a small aircraft\u2019s ballistic recovery system deploying. A video shared by CHP shows Ayala dragging the pilot away from the flaming wreckage.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to CHP and Santa Barbara Fire officials, a 33-year-old woman was able to get out of the aircraft on her own.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Moments after the rescue, the plane exploded, sparking a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wildfires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grass fire<\/a>. It quickly spread due to extremely dry grasses and dangerous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-are-the-santa-ana-and-diablo-winds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Santa Ana wind<\/a> events producing hurricane-force gusts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/extreme-weather\/before-and-after-photos-california-wildfires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>BEFORE-AND-AFTER IMAGES OF CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Both the pilot and passenger were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Thanks to Officer Ayala\u2019s quick thinking and bravery, a tragedy was averted.
