href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/how-do-winter-storms-form\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter storms<\/a> marches on this week as another potent system promises to bring a swath of high-impact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter weather<\/a> from the Plains and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/midwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midwest<\/a> to the Great Lakes and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/northeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northeast<\/a> starting Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This latest round of inclement weather comes just as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/rockies-midwest-northeast-monday-tuesday-snow-ice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley clean up after a storm system brought snow and ice to those regions<\/a> and days after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/winter-storm-snow-ice-midwest-northeast-weekend\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter storm slammed portions of the Northeast and New England<\/a> over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The FOX Forecast Center is also monitoring the development of Plains and Midwest, but there will be a lot more of it this time around.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The FOX Forecast Center said that heavy snow is possible from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/missouri\/kansas-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kansas City<\/a>, Missouri to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/illinois\/chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/michigan\/detroit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Detroit<\/a> in the Great Lakes region by Wednesday night as the area of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/why-is-atmospheric-pressure-so-important-to-the-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low pressure<\/a> rapidly strengthens.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Out of all the storm systems the FOX Forecast Center has been tracking this week, this one looks to be the one that could be the snowiest in terms of totals and coverage.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">And whether you&#8217;re a fan of the snow or not, it&#8217;s desperately needed.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/traveling-this-winter-heres-what-to-keep-in-your-car-in-case-you-get-stuck\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>TRAVELING THIS WINTER? While this latest round of winter weather won\u2019t completely eradicate the snow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/drought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drought<\/a>, it will certainly help.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">There is growing confidence that this winter storm could dump 5\u20138 inches of snow in each of those cities.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Ice could also be a concern in portions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/oklahoma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oklahoma<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/missouri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Missouri<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/kansas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kansas<\/a> and southern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/nebraska\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nebraska<\/a> through to western <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/illinois\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Illinois<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This includes cities like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/kansas\/salina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salina<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/kansas\/topeka\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Topeka<\/a> in Kansas and Kansas City.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/michigan\/saginaw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saginaw<\/a>, Michigan.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Northern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/indiana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indiana<\/a> and portions of extreme northwestern Ohio are also included in the Winter Storm Watch.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/how-do-snowflakes-form-why-unique\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>HOW DO SNOWFLAKES FORM, AND WHY ARE THEY ALL UNIQUE?<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Storm impacts uncertain in Northeast, New England<\/h2>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England<\/a> by Thursday, and that\u2019s when the forecast turns a bit tricky.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The FOX Forecast Center said that some uncertainty remains regarding just how cold or warm the heavily traveled Interstate 95 corridor will be.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/new-fox-model-a-game-changer-in-short-term-weather-prediction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Computer forecast model<\/a> trends have been showing it to be slightly warmer than it has been, meaning cities like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-york\/new-york-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York City<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philadelphia<\/a> could once again miss out on a significant snow event.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">However, that forecast could change as we get closer to Thursday.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The FOX Forecast Center said that there is high confidence that the mid-Atlantic will stay on the warmer side of the storm, meaning this could be a mostly rain event for that region.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">It will be much colder to the north, however, locking in higher snowfall totals in cities and towns north of Boston. Impacts to the west of the I-95 corridor are also still uncertain as temperatures there could also fluctuate.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/snow-101-the-basics-of-snow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>SNOW 101: THE BASICS OF SNOW<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Weekend winter storm includes severe weather threat<\/h2>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Weekend%20What%20We%20Know.png\"\/><figcaption>Here&#8217;s what we know about the weekend storm.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The winter storm threat won\u2019t be letting up as we head into the weekend as the FOX Forecast Center tracks yet another system that will also have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/severe-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">severe weather<\/a> component as it tracks across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S.<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Unlike the previous storms that have been blasting the nation since last weekend, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/why-is-atmospheric-pressure-so-important-to-the-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low-pressure system<\/a> associated with the weekend threat will rapidly strengthen over the Deep South rather than waiting until it nears the East Coast.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-the-jet-stream\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jet stream<\/a> has played a major role in how these storms have been moving across the Lower 48 and will take more of an amplified dip across the South rather than remaining flat.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Severe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/thunderstorms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thunderstorms<\/a> could develop ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-a-cold-front\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cold front<\/a>, which will be the main driver of the system as it moves across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/southeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Southeast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">All severe weather threats, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/hail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hail<\/a>, damaging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wind<\/a> gusts and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/tornadoes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tornadoes<\/a>, will be possible.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/watch-vs-warning-here-are-the-differences-between-these-weather-terms-that-could-save-your-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>WATCH VS. WARNING: HERE ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THESE WEATHER TERMS THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The FOX Forecast Center said the storm will generate widespread rain on its eastern side as it tracks off toward the Northeast.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">That will limit, but not eliminate, the snow threat.
