You can also get a quick briefing of national, regional and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>local weather<\/u><\/a> whenever you like with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/radio.foxnews.com\/podcast\/fox-weather-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>FOX Weather Update podcast<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\"><strong>Severe weather threatens parts of America&#8217;s heartland trying to recover from historic flooding, deadly storms<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Portions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/midwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Midwest<\/u><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/southeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Southeast<\/u><\/a> recently slammed by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/severe-weather-tornado-outbreak-flooding-southeast-deaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deadly barrage of powerful storms and <u>flooding<\/u><\/a> are continuing recovery efforts in the wake of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/disasters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>disaster<\/u><\/a>, but now as residents try to sift through the rubble, they\u2019re facing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/severe-weather-outlook-midwest-south-southeast-april-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">renewed risk of <u>severe weather<\/u> on Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">More than 34 million people across 13 states are currently in Thursday&#8217;s threat area. NOAA&#8217;s Storm Prediction Center (SPC) placed nearly 14 million people in a Level 2 risk on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/weather-geek-speak-severe-weather-categories-explained\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5-point severe thunderstorm risk scale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The main threats will be damaging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wind<\/a> gusts and large <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/hail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hail<\/a>, but a few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/tornadoes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tornadoes<\/a> cannot be ruled out.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Storms will begin to fire in the late afternoon and continue into the evening and overnight.<\/p>\n<div href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/why-is-atmospheric-pressure-so-important-to-the-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low-pressure system<\/a> that&#8217;s bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/severe-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">severe weather<\/a> to the heartland will deliver rain and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/snow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">snow<\/a> to the higher elevations along the Great Lakes and interior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/northeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northeast<\/a> starting late Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Meanwhile, a different low-pressure system will develop Friday off the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/mid-atlantic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mid-Atlantic<\/a> coast and arrive in the Northeast and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/new-england\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England<\/a> by Friday afternoon, bringing widespread soaking rain and cold temperatures for rel=\"noopener\">world<\/a> cruises through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/spring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>spring<\/u><\/a>, meteorologists and climatologists are closely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/el-nino-la-nina-enso-status-forecast-april-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">watching ever-changing water temperatures in the Eastern and Central Pacific Ocean<\/a> to determine the status of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/el-nino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El Ni\u00f1o<\/a>-Southern Oscillation (ENSO).<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The ENSO is considered to be in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/la-nada-neutral-enso-pacific-explainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">neutral state<\/a> when regions of the Central and Eastern Pacific have temperature departures between 0.5 degrees Celsius above average and 0.5 degrees Celsius below average.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Similar to the El Ni\u00f1o and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/la-nina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Ni\u00f1a<\/a> extremes, neutral conditions impact weather across the country and around the globe.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">With the transition from a weak La Ni\u00f1a state to ENSO-neutral conditions in the equatorial Pacific expected over the coming months, the exact forecast remains uncertain, as the unpredictability of pattern changes during the spring season often complicates things.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured
