One day after burning his hand, North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson made another campaign stop in the Piedmont.Saturday morning, Robinson was in Bermuda Run. WXII’s Chris Petersen was the only reporter at the event and not only asked about the burn, but how his campaign is moving forward following the CNN report accusing him of making comments on a pornographic website.While in Mount Airy on Friday, Robinson was treated for second-degree burns during a separate campaign event.”I was getting down off this big rig and, to catch my balance, I touched the truck exhaust and it seared my hand pretty good in one little spot,” Robinson said. “I’m fine. I went to the ER just to get some quick treatment so it wouldn’t blister up.”In a statement sent to WXII, his communications director said, “Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson is currently being treated for burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mount Airy. He is in good spirits.”On Saturday, the lieutenant governor spoke for about 20 minutes, discussing topics from leadership and fixing public education to his opponent, Attorney General Josh Stein.Regarding the CNN report allegations, he called it a political hit piece and said he would hold them accountable.Since the report, multiple officials on his team stepped down. He said he has since replaced the members of his staff who left.”We have a lawyer who is handling that for us,” Robinson said. “The investigation is well underway. I spent several hours with them just yesterday or the day before yesterday talking with them about that, giving them the information they need to move forward. You make no mistake about it, we are going to take CNN to task for this.”Currently, polls show Robinson trailing his opponent, Stein, by double digits.
