Multiple counties setting up water tankers to give out water


Hundreds of thousands of people in Western North Carolina remain without power and without running water in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Below is a list of water and food distribution sites in Western North Carolina for Sept. 30.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY

This list will be updated throughout the day.

The Fresh Market

A spokesperson for The Fresh Market said it plans to distribute free bottles of water to those in need at two locations in Asheville, starting at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30. This comes after truck delivery delays scrapped plans for a distribution event on Sunday.

The two locations are at 944 Merrimon Avenue and at 1378 Hendersonville, Road.

HENDERSON COUNTY

Henderson County said in a news release that it is mobilizing six resource hub locations for water distribution and other supplies as they become available, starting at noon.

The locations are as follows:

  • Etowah Elementary School
  • Rugby Middle School
  • East Henderson High School
  • North Henderson High School
  • Mills River Town Hall
  • Fletcher Town Hall

The Henderson County Transfer Station will be open today at 7:00am and will accept storm debris with the normal fees. Cash, check or established accounts only. We are working on a free storm debris site that will be available soon.

SWANNANOA COMMUNITY DEVASTATED BY FLOOD DAMAGE AFTER HURRICANE HELENE

HAYWOOD COUNTY

A water tanker will be giving out water in Haywood County on Sept. 30.

This was an early-morning post from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office about a water tanker truck being in Canton on Monday.

The sheriff’s office’s post said that the water tanker will be parked at Canton Plaza (next to New Clyde Highway) from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. for those in need of water. Residents are asked to bring their own containers.

There is a limit of one gallon per person per day.

MCDOWELL COUNTY

McDowell County announced it will be distributing food and water to residents in need at several locations today and Oct. 1, and they are listed below.

  • Sept. 30: Old Fort Town Hall, 38 Catawba Avenue, Old Fort
  • Sept. 30: Hicks Chapel at 6008 U.S. 221 North
  • Oct. 1: Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church, 7860 N.C. 226, Nebo
